Barth, Conrad #e (20 MAR 1896 - 29 MAY 1959)

Conrad William Barth, whose death occurred Friday, May 29th, 1959, was born March 20th, 1896 in the Town of Reseburg, Clark Co., Wis.

His parents were Cesar Barth Sr. and Amelia (Ohlemetz) Barth, both of whom have already passed away.

He was the third oldest of a family of five children, namely, Elizabeth Lathrop, Appleton, Wis., John, Thorp, Wis., Cesar, Greenwood, Wis., and Amelia Schink of Appleton, Wis., all of whom still survive and were present at the funeral.

Conrad received his education in the Grade School at Reseburg.

He was a World War I veteran , having served his country as cook in Army Camp in Texas.  He was known to his many friends in different types of work besides farming, such as, a member of the Barth-Doege threshing crew in early years, later the Barth Bros., having their own rig; he was active in the building of roads in the Towns of Mead and Reseburg; he and his brother, Cesar, maintained a sawmill; he was assessor of the Town of Mead for many years.

He was married to Gertrude Meier of Taylor Co., Wis., at Medford, Wis., on June 30th, 1924, by Rev. MW. Hilleman.  To this union were born eight children, who along with his wife, still survive him.  The children are: Leonard, employed at Falls Dairy, Stanley, Conrad Jr., employed in Milwaukee up to this time; Fred, employed by Clayton Braun of Greenwood, Wis., Donna Hein, Sun Prairie, Wis., Robert, Employed at Owen Dairy; Gertrude, Psychiatric Aid at Mendota State Hospital; Edwin, at home, still a student at Thorp High.

They resided at Reseburg from the date of marriage until Dec. 13, 1927, at which time his wife and he and the two children moved to the Town of Mead and built themselves a home on the present farm.

Conrad met his death when the tractor with which he had started plowing his corn ground, overturned, pinning him underneath.  Death was instantaneous.  His body lay in state at the Thorp Funeral Home until Tuesday noon, at which time it was taken to St. Paul’s Lutheran Church at Thorp.  Funeral services were conducted by Rev. R.W. Olson, local pastor of the church.

He was accorded a Military Funeral by Legion Post No. 118, of which he was a member.

Pallbearers were all Legion members: Tom Polnaszek, Bill Vanderhyden, Leif Larson, Harry Smith, William Roesler and Herman Doege.

He is also survived by seven grandchildren, Connie, Leonard, Donald and Shirley Barth, Sudi Ann and Nancy Lee Much, and Lynne Marie Hein.

He was laid to rest in Sylvan Cemetery at Reseburg, Wis., Tuesday, June 2nd, 1959.
