He returned to Thorp about 1926 and became a partner in the Bogumill Farmers Store Co.  He sold his interest in the firm in 1948 and operated a grocery in Black River falls for three years before moving to Hartland in 1951.  Besides his other accomplishments, he was an expert cabinet maker and after his retirement as a designer for a firm in Milwaukee he devoted all of his time to that vocation in his own shop at Hartland.

He is survived by his wife Lucy, four sons, Stanley J. Manicke Jr. of Hartland, Paul of Waukesha, Daniel of Okauchee, Wis. and John of Milwaukee; five daughters, Marjorie, Mrs. Malcolm Grueschow, Thiensville, Wis., Lilian, Mrs. Robert Bohrman and Beverly, Mrs. Royal Ronke of Waukesha, Donna, Mrs. James Geddes and Miss Sandra Manicke of Hartland; four brothers, Frank and Walter of Wausau, Wis., John of Portland, Oregon and George Manicke of Chicago, and one sister, Mrs. Nettie Kowalefski of Wausau, Wis.

The deceased was a member of the Thorp Lodge No. 264 F. & A.M. of Thorp and the funeral services were performed by the Masonic Order of Hartland, Wis.  Interment was made in the Prairie Home Cemetery at Waukesha, Wis.
