Sherwood (4 July 1963)

Mr. and Mrs. Francis Jacobson returned early Saturday morning from Lander, Wyo., where they visited their daughter, Mrs. Annette Snedaker, and her family.

The Snedakers were busy cleaning up from a flash flood which occurred on Saturday.  Many left their homes during the night for higher ground.  Luckily the dam held after several crews worked around the clock to protect it.  Had it broken, Lander would have been wiped from the map.  The Snedakers had just moved from Buffalo into a new parsonage the week before.

Mr. and Mrs. Chris Feutz and Roy Lawrence accompanied the Jacobsons on the trip.  Many interesting places were visited on the trip.

The Sinks and Rise of the Popo Agie River up a large canyon makes an abrupt turn to disappear into a mountainside cavern, from which it pursues in an underground channel, comes back down 200 feet to again rise in a small lake.  At the foot of this it is full of trout. Visitors throw bread crumbs into the water to watch the trout jump for the food.  This place was founded by a French-Canadian trapper in 1743. 

The Lutheran Ladies Aid and their families had a picnic at Sherwood Lake Sunday.

Jerry Jacobson of Rockford, Ill., is spending his vacation with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Joe Jacobson.

Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Freedlund and family of Rockford, Ill., are spending some of their vacation with Mr. and Mrs. Chester Freedlund and other relatives.

Alfred Fields and his father visited last weekend with relatives around Waukegan, Ill.

Bert Todd has been sick with pneumonia.
