Mercier, Dolores A. (26 APR 1940 - 4 NOV 2011)

 

Dolores A. Mercier, 71 of Colby, passed away Friday Nov. 4, 2011, at University of Wisconsin Hospital in Madison.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 12, 2011, at St. Mary Help of Christians Catholic Church in Colby. The Rev. Daniel Hackel will preside. Private burial will take place at St. Mary's Cemetery. 

Friends may call on Saturday at the church in Colby from 9 a.m. until time of services.

Dolores was born April 26, 1940, in Owen, the daughter of the late Emil and Anna (Potocnik) Friedenfels. She attended grade school at Redville Country School later graduating from Owen-Withee High School. 

She married Albert "Jim" Mercier on Jan. 24, 1959, in Owen. Together they owned and operated a dairy farm and raised their children. 

Her hobbies included cooking and baking all sorts of delicious foods including breads, sweet rolls and fried chicken, quilting, playing cards with her good friends and a trip or two to the casino.

Dolores' greatest and most loving passion was her grandchildren. She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, and St. Mary's Christian Mothers west side club.

She is lovingly survived by her four children, Rich (Holly) Mercier of Waunakee, Dave (Dawn) Mercier of Colby, Al (Lora) Mercier of Marshfield, and Lisa (Kevin) Meifert of Sheboygan. She is also survived by 13 grandchildren, Megan, Sara, Kelly, and Emily Mercier, Eric and Ryan Bruesewitz, Brenna, Nathan and Sadie Mercier, Ben and Sophie Mercier, Thomas Stephen and Sierra Meifert. She is further survived by five siblings, Daisy (Jim) Bullock, Gloria (Bob) Garcia, Eddie (Marge) Friedenfels, Rich (Marge) Friedenfels and Robert Friedenfels; and one brother-in-law, John Elsing.

Dolores was preceded in death by her husband, Albert; one daughter, Elaine; four brothers, Frank, Harry, Don and William; a sister, Dorothy; and one grandson, Shane Stephen.

The family extends special appreciation to Dolores's organ donor, Scott and his family. Their gift, in the form of a lung transplant, gave Dolores a second chance at life. The family also wishes to thank the U.W. Hospital transplant team and nurses for all their support, dedication and care. Finally, a special thank you is extended to Dolores' card playing friends for their kind thoughts, love and support.
