Krause, Adelyn (11 June 1921 - 24 June 1963)

Funeral services will be held from Nazareth Lutheran Church in Withee at 2 p.m. today (Thursday) for Mrs. William E. Krause, 42, who was killed instantly in an automobile-truck crash a mile west of Withee early Monday afternoon.

Mrs. Krause, nee Adelyn Olson, was the wife of William E. Krause, widely-known Clark County Auctioneer and livestock buyer. Their home is on Highway 29 between Withee and Owen.

Pallbearers will be Dr. M. V. Nason, Adam Mitchur, R. C. Fisher, Ted Papierniak, Ed Martin and Eddie Lehnen.  Arrangements are being made by the Hoeper-Kraut Funeral home in Owen.

Mrs. Krause was killed when an automobile in which she was riding collided with a new, empty concrete truck at 1:44 p.m. at the intersection of a town road and new Highway 29, a mile west of Withee and a mile south.

Mrs. Krause was a passenger in a car driven by Mrs. Edith Bowler of Rt. 3, Fort Atkinson.  Mrs. Bowler suffered internal injuries and another passenger, Mrs. Nancy Gretzinger of Tonawanda, N. Y., suffered a fractured arm.  Both were taken to a Marshfield hospital.

Driver of the concrete truck was William Benzene, 34, of Rt. 2 Athens.  He suffered a lacerated ear when the  truck overturned. The truck, a new $11,000 one, was owned by Kloist, Inc., of Marshfield.

Traffic Officer David Bertz of Withee, one of the investigating officers, reported that the three women were on their way to a fishing spot along the Black River when the accident took place. The Bowler car had stopped at the intersection of new Highway 29, on which work is proceeding. A truck passed by on the new highway, throwing up a large volume of dust.

The dust apparently hid Benzene’s truck, which was following, from Mrs. Bowler’s view.  The car started to cross the intersection and collided with the truck.  Both car and truck were overturned, and all occupants were thrown from their vehicles.

Mrs. Krause was Clark County’s fifth traffic accident victim this year.

Born in Baldwin on June 11, 1921, she was married to William E. Krause on May 5, 1943.  They came to the Owen-Withee area to make their home in 1943.

Surviving are her husband; a son, William, 20, who is stationed with the air force in Texas; her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Olson of Withee; and a brother, Norman Olson of St. Paul, Minn.

The son was called home by the death of his mother.
