Ober, Harry (24 APR 1828 - 1 FEB 1913)

About 9 o’clock last Saturday morning, Feb. 1, 1913, the spirit of Harry H. Ober left its earthly tenement, wherein it had been housed better than 84 years, and soared aloft, leaving desolate the home where he and his dear wife dwelt.  The funeral was held in the union Church Monday afternoon, Mr. Mallory of Stevens Point officiating.  The choir was composed of Messrs. Price Lee and Byrl Winn, the Mesdames Albert Mable and A.J. Knorr, with Miss Inez Holmes as organist.  The pallbearers were P.J. Kemmeter, E.A. Beeckler, John Breese, Noble Downer, George Huntley and Webb Winn.

Deceased was born in Stockholm St. Lawrence Co., N.Y., April 24, 1828, and was the last survivor of a family of 12 children.  On July 4, 1853 he was married to Maria Ober.  She, with their only daughter Mary, Mrs. Rice D. Davis, survives him.  They had one other child, a boy who died in infancy, year ago.  Mr. Ober was a veteran of the Civil War, a private in Co. F., 92nd Regiment, N.Y. Volunteers, and served three years.  He was one of this county’s pioneers, coming here about 43 years ago and remaining a resident through all the years since.

A large audience listened to the funeral service held for this kindly man and well liked friend and neighbor, and the community’s sympathy is with his grief stricken wife in this her sad hour.
