David Sparks of Sherwood transacted business here Monday.

 

Phillip Steinbach was taken suddenly and severely ill, Monday.

 

State school inspector Geo. Drewery was here on official business, Monday.

 

Mrs. Henry Eisenhart has been very sick with pneumonia since last Friday.

 

Miss Gertrude Holmes resumed her school work at Hawthorne last week.

 

Mrs. Ferdinand Richter and two children came home Friday from a couple of weeks visit with relatives at Brillion.

 

Mrs. Floyd Winn entertained the Priscillas, Wednesday.

 

Wm. Zorn came home on Monday from a 5 day visit at Brillion.

 

Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Knickle came home on Monday from Milwaukee and Campbellsport.

 

Rev. Ahl of Oshkosh spent several days here at Rev. Reiff’s, last week.

 

Mrs. David Steele and son Glen spent Monday with Mr. Steele at the Marshfield hospital.

 

Charles and Miss Henriette Gliwen, after a 10 days visit at John Vande Berg’s went home to Brandon on Monday.

 

What about Philmore Kemmeter?  He is evidently gradually coming home by parcel post.  He sent his straw hat and bath robe by that system last week as a first installment.

 

Mrs. W.D. Rose will entertain the Circle next Wednesday.

 

Mrs. Myron Osgood will entertain the "T" Club this Friday afternoon.

 

Ila Fraser, after a several weeks stay here at her brother George’s, went home to Chili, Saturday.

 

Mrs. John Wolf and Mrs. Frances Woodward of Neillsville spent last Friday with Mrs. Baer.

 

N.E. Lee, Mrs. H.B. Holmes and daughter Inez were among the Grantonites at the county seat, Monday.

 

Arthur Stallman took the Omaha Railway. Co. examination for conductor at Eau Claire, Monday.

 

Mr. and Mrs. Horace Rodman, with their three children, went to Neillsville Saturday evening.

 

Miss Victoria Pierrelee came home from Milwaukee, Saturday evening.

 

Miss Bertha Riedel spent last Tuesday with friends at Neillsville.

 

Mrs. Eva Canfield made a business trip to Neillsville, Tuesday.

 

Mrs. Chas. Beeckler’s recent farm neighbors had a wood hauling bee for her last Saturday.

 

Fred Hankey has been quite sick for the past two weeks.  Mrs. Hankey too, was indisposed.

 

Clarence Zarling, after a two week visit at Sheboygan, returned to resume his duties at the T.F. Lee farm, Saturday.

 

Mrs. Edward Schroeder will entertain the O.E.S. Birthday Club this week Saturday, the 18th.  All visiting O.E.S. welcome.

 

Wm. Weidoff of Black Creek is here assisting Joe Felzer with the work in the Steele-Felzer blacksmith shop, temporarily, or until Mr. Steele recovers sufficiently to resume his duties there.

 

Mrs. Minnie Kurth went to Marshfield Monday to look after here Wood County property interests and visit relatives a few days.

 

Mrs. Albert Sternitzky went to Reedsburg last week Thursday and made an over Sunday visit with Mrs. Ward.

 

Mrs. Mike Grasser and daughter Miss Mary spent Tuesday at Marshfield in attending the funeral of the late Mrs. Leinwander, a widow, , and particular friend of theirs.

 

W.D. Rose went to Unity Tuesday.  Mrs. Rose accompanied him as far as Marshfield, where she spent the time in visiting friends.

 

Mr. Tower of Eau Claire, superintendent of the Eastern division of the Omaha Railway, exchanged greeting with the road’s employees at this station as he passed through here Tuesday.

 

Mrs. Eugene Crandall and son Theodore went to Strum Wednesday for a couple of days pleasure trip and vist with old friends.

 

Miss Lafe of Humbird, a niece of Henry Eisenhart’s came Tuesday to assist in the care of Mrs. Eisenhart.

 

Walter Zahnow, after spending five months at Robert Strey’s, returned to his home at Milwaukee Tuesday.

 

Louis Wiesner has employment at Athens since last Friday.

 

Mrs. Fred Wright and baby returned home from Sycamore, Ill. Thursday.

 

Miss Laura Welk of Milladore came Tuesday and remained until today visiting at the P.J. Kemmeter home.

 

Mrs. Mabel Welsh and son Rella of Veefkind visited friends here this week.

 

Gertrude Kimball came down from St. Paul Wednesday for a week’s visit at the W.B. Davis home.

 

Mrs. Webb Winn and Mrs. Frank davis spent Wednesday afternoon with friends at Chili.

 

Mrs. Frank Covnerse went to Neillsville Wednesday to spend a couple of days with relatives before returning to Melrose.

 

Mrs. N.E. Crandall of Neilslville came over on Wednesday to keep house for her son and care for baby Douglas during Mrs. Crandall’s absence at Strum.

 

Mrs. Ed Steinbach, Mr. and Mrs. Jap Spry and son Dale, Bernhard Jahr, Chris Gerzmehle and S.R. Davis were Neillsville Visitors Wednesday.

 

Mr. and Mrs. E.C. Starks, with their 2 children, after a 3 week visit between Mrs. Nancy Johnson, Justin Johnson and Eva Canfield’s, left for Pennsylvania state points, Tuesday.

 

Word has been received that Robert Dennis is very low with typhoid-pneumonia at his home in Sycamore, Ill., and that he cannot survive.  This is sad news to his friends here.

 

Rosa Paulson has sold quite a few of the horses he recently received from the west.  Two of them were shipped to parties in Clintonville last Monday.  Ross has established quite a reputation as a horse jockey in this part of the state, due chiefly to his strictly honest dealings.

 

Fred Gerber is slowly recovering from the serious illness he has suffered, since New Year’s.  It has just come to our attention that owing to ill health Fred is no longer operating his own farm, but that Fred Sultrecht has been managing it since November, when he rented it under a three year contract.

 

Mr. and Mrs. Pizer of Portland, Oregon, after a several week visit at the W.E. Smith’s, left for Richland Center, Monday.

 

The Seward Way home just north of Neillsville was consumed by fire Wednesday noon.  Mr. Way and his aged and infirm mother are at the John Charles home.

 

Mr. and Mrs. Stillman, Huntley, Mr. and Mrs. Dan Hefty, Mrs. Dan Rausch and Mrs. Herm Garbush were Marshfield visitors, yesterday.

 

The little 3-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. Gus Reichert was taken to Marshfield late last week to be operated on for a serious trouble resulting from scarlet fever.

 

At the annual meeting of the stockholders of the Farmers State Bank, which was held last week, the following directors were re-elected: Robert Kurth, J.P. Kintzele, S.W. Davis, A.J. Knorr, C.C. Berg, Wm. Kurth and Geo. Ure.  At the meeting of the directors the old bank officers were all re-elected.  A surplus of $2000 was declared.  The bank’s resources are now amounting to $147.000.

 

August Kelpin and sister, Mrs. Max Herman, both of Rochester, N.Y., after a two week visit with their brother Wm. Kelpin, left for Mayville, Wis., Tuesday morning, where they will spend a few days with their mother, who resides there and who is very ill.

 

Rush Wentworth, who about a month ago had the misfortune to break his right leg at the ankle, is slowly regaining the use of same, and is now able to walk without crutches.
