East Lynn (31 March 1911)

Louis Knoop and his - what, that’s all-right - drove to Neillsville last Sat. and returned Monday.

August Pusheck and family attended church services at Maple Works last Friday.  Their daughter Lydia who had been staying at L. E. Moh’s the past week accompanied them home.

Among those that took calves and hogs to Chili Monday were Henry Jensen and Fred Grade.

Anybody wishing a hair cut in this neighborhood call on the new barber, he will do the job in the latest style.

A large number of voters attended the caucus at Lynn last Saturday.

The two weeks school vacation that was reported in a last week’s item was an error, caused by us being misinformed.  The vacation is only for one week.

Mrs. A. P. Stone returned from Eau Claire Monday where she has been visiting her sister.

We are informed that the fifteen year wedding party at the Herman Jensen home Tuesday evening was well attended and enjoyed by all.

Ladies beware, when your intended calls on you one of these pleasant evenings, greet him with a smile and pilot him to an easy chair, make him as comfortable as the surroundings allow and when the hour of midnight arrives do not look with one eye at the clock and the other at the door, but humor him and encourage him to linger a little longer for his trials and troubles are many.  For being turned out in the dead of night there is danger of going astray or being kidnapped. The poor fellow at this stage of life is very nervous.  Help him along this dangerous journey and great shall be the reward, for the future is full of pitfalls and darkness.  Cheer him up to the best your ability and at the first sign of daylight fill his internal regions with hot coffee and doughnuts and should he be possessed with enough moral courage to make a proposal, accept him on the spot in a straight forward business like manner, for in the future the broom handle and rolling pin will give you ample protection.

Thomas Mercer of Dells Dam spent a few days with his brother John here last week.  His sister also called on friends in the vicinity of Lynn.

If we do not get our slate kicked in we will continue this work a little while longer.

Miss Emma Neinas, of Sauerkraut City who has been staying at R. Guk’s the past few weeks returned to her home last Sunday.

John Mercer has a habit of making friends of everybody and everything but the jumper that A. Sternitzky has made in order to be used in gathering sap.  It seems to keep him in constant terror and he will not approach it unless he is armed with a handspike.  The other evening he did not make his appearance at supper time, so a search was made and John was found up a tree, the jumper staring him in the face.  It took 2 pounds of maple sugar to induce him to leave his dangerous roost.
