Schilling, Bertha (16 January 1871 - March 1963)

Funeral services for Mrs. Bertha Schilling, 92, of Chili, were conducted Monday afternoon from the Evangelical United Brethren Church in Chili. The Rev. L. L. McCormick officiated.  Burial was made in Chili.

Mrs. Schilling, the former Bertha Nebel, daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. William Nebel, was born January 16, 1781 (surely it is, 1871), in Empede, Germany.  She was educated in Germany and in 1889 was married to Louis Schilling.  They came to the United States in 1890 and lived in Becker, Ill., for a year, moving to Oswego, Ill., where they resided for three and one half years.  They moved to the Chili area in September 1895.

Mrs. Schilling was a resident of the Chili community for 68 years before becoming a patient at the Roselane Nursing Home in Fairchild.

She was a charter member of the Evangelical United Brethren Church and was active in church work, having taught German adult classes for several years. She was also a member of its Ladies Aid.

Surviving are the following children: Mrs. Charles (Bertha) Krug of Wautoma; Mrs. August (Louise) Foemmel, Chili; Mrs. Arthur (Esther) Lindow of Westfield; Ferdinand Schilling of Chili; Mrs. William (Ruth) Bandt, Chili; Ezra Schilling of Chili, and Mrs. Walter (Martha) King of Coloma.

Other survivors are three brothers, Henry Nebel of Chili; Ferdinand Nebel of Webster and William Nebel, address unknown; 24 grandchildren, 62 great-grandchildren and 13 great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral arrangements were made by the Bergemann Funeral Home.
