Sherren, Kenneth Leroy (18 June 1925 - 10 September 2011) With Flag

Kenneth Sherren, 86, of Greenwood died Saturday, Sept. 10, 2011, at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Marshfield.

Kenneth Leroy Sherren was born June 18, 1925, in Petersburg, IL, the son of George and May (Fairow) Sherren.  He graduated from Petersburg Harris High School and then enlisted into the United States Army in April of 1949.  he served with the 101^st Airborne Battalion as a radio operator, stationed in Germany, during the Korean War and was honorably discharged in August of 1952. He was united in marriage to Viola Helton Dec. 21, 1955, in Moline, IL.  They moved to Greenwood in 1958 and purchased a farm in the Town of Weston.  Kenneth farmed for many years, before retiring, raising hogs and crops and doing custom harvesting and custom picking.

He was a member of the York Center United Methodist Church and the Masonic Lodge.  He was also a member of the Haugen-Richmond American Legion Post #73 and a lifetime member of the Wilson-Heintz VFW Post #2241.

Kenneth enjoyed hunting, traveling, going out to eat and reading, especially about his hometown hero, Abe Lincoln, the comics and the obituaries.

He is survived by two sisters, Maxine Reller of Silvis, IL, and Betty Kiper of Mason City, IL; and nieces and nephews, Andrea Clausen of Rockford, IL, Mary (Charles) Raum of Rockford, IL and Linda (David) Clikeman of Elkhorn.  (No mention if Viola survives or is deceased.)

Kenneth was preceded in death by a brother, George, and two sisters, Shirley and Nance.

Funeral serviced for Kenneth will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Sept, 16, 2011, at the Gesche Funeral Home in Neillsville.  Pastor Mike Herdt of the York Center Methodist Church will officiate.  Interment will be in the Neillsville City Cemetery with Military Honors accorded by the Neillsville Veteran’s council. Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday, with a 6:30 p.m. Masonic Lodge Service at the Gesche Funeral Home in Neillsville and from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Friday, at the funeral home.

Casketbearers are Duane Boon, Jack Kluckhohn, Art Luedtke, Evan Lenz, Harold Lenz and Benny Heck.
