Mr. and Mrs. Chas. Neinas spent Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. Carl Retta.

 

Mrs. Ross Paulson and son Clifton spent Sunday with relatives at Christie.

 

Albert Paulson, the Christie creamery man, visited relatives in town Tuesday.

 

Miss Anna Schuelke left for Waukesha last Thursday after a three month stay here at home.

 

Mrs. Frank Converse was engaged with sewing at H.J. Pietenpol’s early this week.

 

Mrs. Henry Albrecht drove into town and made some pleasant calls among friends on Tuesday.

 

Dan and John Donahue, Jr. and Milton Page took in the dance at Chili Saturday night.

 

Mrs. Lena Schmoll and Mrs. Kurth of Neillsville drove out and called on friends here last Friday.

 

Traugut Beer, who for the past 10 months has been visiting his daughter at Spokane, Wash., returned home from their last week.

 

Disciples Jackson and Mallory of Stevens Point will be here Wednesday to hold services at the Advent Church that evening.

 

Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Selves and grandson Arthur Duette of Lac du Flambeau, and Mrs. Sarah Selves of the Ridge visited at W.W. Page’s here last Friday.

 

Mr. and Mrs. Henry beer of Marshfield were over last week and attended the funeral of the infant son of Mr. and Mrs. Julius Lautenbach, returning home on Friday.

 

Mr. and Mrs. Herman Yankee went to La Crosse on Monday where they will spend some time in visiting relatives and attending the interstate fair.

 

Phillip Wegner and family left for their new home at Faribault, Minn., Tuesday.  Their many friends here regret their move and would be glad to welcome them back to Granton again some day.

 

Mrs. Geo. Stallman, sons Geo. And Peter, and daughter Dora of Marshfield, came over Saturday and remained over Sunday in visiting at Peter Stallman’s here.  Geo. And his cousin Arthur attended the Chili dance Saturday eve.

 

Will Short, the enterprising creamery man and cheese manufacturer from Marshfield, was seen on our streets Tuesday.  He was here for the purpose of visiting cheese factories in this vicinity.

 

The Geo. Hart family expect to move into their cozy and comfortable rooms over the meat market building early next week, when G.E. Amidon and family will move into the house vacated by them.

 

Station Agent Geo. Wilding of Kurth transacted business in town Tuesday.  Geo. Says cold weather is coming on and his fingers refuse to limber up sufficiently to telegraph with any degree of comfort, so Monday morning he ticked off the message, "I want my time", got it and quit.

 

Mr. and Mrs. Geo. Hart drove to Humbird Saturday afternoon for a little visit there, driving home Saturday by way of the Lowery farm south of Neillsville and bringing up the rear with the party from here.  Levi Morris took charge of the meat market during their absence.

 

Geo. Fraser of Chili visited friends here Sunday.

 

Mrs. R.T. Washburn of Lynn visited Beulah Hornbeck Saturday.

 

Mrs. Free Converse was shopping here on Tuesday.

 

Wm. Goeden of Neillsville was out on business Tuesday morning.

 

Calvin Davis and Lottie Berg attended the dance at Chili Saturday night.

 

Pearl Beeckler accompanied her sister Theressa to Cannonville Sunday afternoon.

 

Mr. and Mrs. Edward Schroeder Sundayed with her parents in Washburn.

 

Wm. Schwartz transacted business at the county seat Tuesday.  Went down to get his license.

 

For good shoe repairing of all kinds call on our shoemaker, John Bladl.  Shop over Kemmeter’s store.

 

Willis Enhelder from near Globe drove over with his ponies and visited friends here Sunday.

 

John Meyers of Chili, together with his parents of Grand Chute, who were visiting him, came over Saturday and visited Mrs. F. Peters.

 

Miss Manda Schuelke, who had been home on a several week visit, returned to Chicago Monday where she will resume her duties as stenographer.

 

John P. Kintzele and Noble Downer went to City Point Wednesday to close a deal whereby they become possessed of some choice timer.

 

Mrs. Dan Rausch will entertain the Circle next Wednesday at 6 o’clock supper.  A general invitation is extended to all.  Supper will be served at the small sum of 10 cents per head.

 

Mr. and Mrs. Harry Eide, Wm. Singer, Miss Bertha Beeler and Miss Lizzie Guk, all of Fremont, visited at Fred Garbush’s, Sunday.

 

Rev. Hass went to Madison and Middleton late last week, attending a mission festival at the latter place on Sunday and returning home on Tuesday.

 

The masons finished the brick veneering on the new German Lutheran Church in Rev. Gereke’s parish this week Wednesday.

 

Mrs. S. Lokken and daughters Mabel and Alice went to Taylor Sat. morning for a few days visit with Mrs. Lokken’s parents who reside there.

 

Mrs. Pizer and Mrs. Deets, the latter having her little 3-year-old son and 4-month old twin girls, left for Union Center Saturday morning, after a week’s visit here at W.W. Smith’s.

 

Mrs. E. Eilert and Mrs. Fred Huntzicker, and little son Ernest of Fresno, Calif., visited friends here Friday and Saturday, stopping off on their way to Neillsville after a visit at Geo. Hintzicker’s Sr., in Marshfield.

 

Ed Mead and Geo. Beardsley have just finished drilling a 72 foot well on the Ferd Puffal place for Chas. Neinas.  They drilled down through manganese and found quite a showing of gold.

 

Mr. and Mrs. Finch of Michigan, together with Mr. Ed Short and Miss Ada Smith of Neillsville, drove over from the last named place Sunday, and with Lyman T. Smith from here, drove out and spent the day at James Davidson’s, 2 miles north of Chili.

 

Martin Winter spent Sunday at Dave Garbush’s.

 

Williams & Wonser will ship 3 cars of stock tomorrow.

 

P.J. Kemmeter received an elegant line of fall goods last Wednesday.

 

Kurth & Davis shipped 3 cars of stock last Saturday.

 

Mrs. W.C. Tufts of Withee was here last week to attend her grandmother’s funeral.

 

Mrs. Frank Lowe of Neillsville was out and called on friends here Wednesday.

 

Mat Marx, Herman Thiede and Robert Keller had threshing crews engaged at their respective place Wed.

 

W.S. Davis will move nearer to town next week, moving into the H.E. Williams place just vacated by Willis Williams.

 

The chicken pie supper at A.J. Knorr’s Wednesday evening was a delightful affair and netted the Circle a neat sum for their treasury.

 

Let me repair you watch or clock.  I guarantee my work - L.T. Smith, jeweler, Granton, Wis.

 

Nic Blanc of Fairchild took charge of this railroad section on Wednesday in place of John Donahue Sr., who resigned.

 

Chester Finnegan has accepted the position of clerk and general utility man at the Forest House, entering upon his new duties Wednesday morning.

 

Joe Buss is making arrangements to put a furnace in his home this fall.  Elmer Selves is to cement and put the cellar in shape next week.

 

Bert Garfield of Neillsville put in two gasoline lamps at the bank last week.  These are elegant lights and give satisfaction.

 

Mr. and Mrs. J.A. Kimball of Neillsville visited relatives here Wed. and Thursday, Mr. Kimball and W.S. Davis sitting up and caring for John Pietenpol Wednesday night.

 

Mr. Krejci’s little 10-year old son Joe is suffering with an abscess on the right side of his neck which was found necessary to have lanced early this week.

 

Chas. Beeckler, Frank Jahr and Herman Krause began laying the wall for the Amidon drug store building last Friday, finishing Wednesday, and John Cattenach hauling all the stone for the wall.

 

Rausch and Page recently purchased a hall of Mrs. F.H. Peters and on Monday started to move it from its old position south of the Eagle Hotel down and beside their warehouse across the railroad track on Main Street.  Geo. Ure, with a crew, is doing the moving.

 

Rev. and Mrs. Lavender arrived here from Trempealeau Tuesday Eve., having driven up from there since Monday, reaching Black River Falls Monday, and from thence, here on Tuesday.  They are visiting Dr. and Mrs. F.A. Soles and expect to leave for home again on Monday.

 

The 30th battery of field artillery which was stationed at Sparta and of which Clyde Shaw is a member, left there Tuesday for La Cross and the Fair, where they will give an exhibition.  Mrs. C.E. Beeckler, Clyde’s mother, and Mrs. Thos. Burdick, his grandmother, left here Tuesday night for La Cross, where they will attend the fair and see this exhibition.  The ladies expect to return here today, while this part of Uncle Sam’s Army will leave La Crosse today for Ft. Snelling.
