Chili (8 July 1910)

The Glorious Fourth has passed again and things take on an every day appearance once more.  It was one of the dry 4th of Julys we used to read about, but which did not happen until the last 2 years.

Haying is in full progress that is where there is any hay to be made.  In some places they use lawn mowers with bag attachment to catch the stray spears.

Geo. Waterman has retired to his farm now and has joined the farmers union. Fred Braun is helping him to get used to the work.

On Tuesday morning the majority of the young people looked fagged out with red eyes and tried features.  Yes indeed it is a hard piece of work to celebrate the 4th and work the next day.

The annual school meeting was held and with the exception of a belated explosion of a few words went off very smooth. The retiring clerk was re-elected.  It was voted to have the inside of the school house re-painted. Tom Gibson was elected chairman and made a very good one.

Among those who took in the Fourth at Granton were Mr. and Mrs. A. W. Wendorf, Dr. and Mrs. S. G. Schwarz, Herman Henning and family, Mr. and Mrs. Anton Hogenson and others.
