Pugh, Caroline Mary (14 August 1881 - 15 May 1910)

Mrs. Charles Pugh died at LaValle, Wis., May 15, 1910.  Her maiden name was Caroline Mary Thompson.  She was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. F. Thomson and was born in Hounston, England, Aug. 14, 1881.  Her father was a devoted minister in the Free Methodist Church and about three years of his ministry was here in Granton. For some years, before his death, she was his faithful assistant in Gospel work, helping to hold evangelistic services in various places where her father and family were located, presiding at the organ and assisting as singer.  For about three years she was engaged in Rescue work in the Florence Crittenden Home in Minneapolis, Minn., part of the time as matron in charge.  At the time of her death she was a member of the Advent Christian Church of LaValle and secretary of The Loyal Workers’ Society, the young people’s organization in that church and a member of the Sunday school and Helper’s Union.

She was married to Charles Pugh at Madison, Wis., on May 24, 1906, and to them was born two children, Vera, now three years old and a sweet babe which died last June.  Her sickness was brief but severe and being of a delicate constitution she was unable to resist the combined attack of la grippe and pleura-pneumonia, and notwithstanding the efforts of a skillful physician and a faithful nurse, she gradually sank into the sleep of death, passing away in the early morning of Sunday, May 15, leaving behind her, a husband, daughter, mother, brother and sister besides other relatives and many friends who came from far and near to mourn with her loved ones over her untimely death, as she was only 28 years and 9 months of age.

She was a beautiful Christian character.  Her faith and hope was in God and her life committed to His keeping.  It was hard for her to leave home and loved ones, but she was reconciled and expressed her hope of meeting them all again in the kingdom of God.  The funeral was held at the Advent Church on Tuesday, May 16, 1910 and conducted by her pastor Elder A. E. Bloom of Monticello, Wis., assisted by Elder J. M. Dick of Baraboo, and by Pastor C. Siggelkow of the Free Methodist Church.  The spacious church was filled to overflowing and the floral offerings were grand.  Her husband was a leading member of the Modern Woodman and they escorted the funeral procession to the church and cemetery.  She was laid to rest in the LaValle Cemetery.
