Marx, John P. (22 July 1889 - 27 July 1962)

 

A requiem high mass was said Monday morning from St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Neillsville for John Marx, 73, of Neillsville, who died Friday evening in Memorial Hospital.  The Rev. Fr. Bernard T. Kelly officiated.  Burial was made in the parish cemetery.  A general rosary service was said Sunday evening at the Bergemann Funeral Home.

 

John P. Marx, son of the late John and Adeline (Simon) Marx, was born July 22, 1889, in Neillsville and had resided in this area most of his life.  He attended St. Mary’s parochial school in Neillsville and entered military service on July 25, 1918 in Neillsville.  ON April 18, 1919, he received his discharge at Camp Grant, Ill.

 

For many years Mr. Marx was employed by the Badger State Telephone Company as a lineman.  He retired in 1954.  After being ill for a year he entered the Neillsville Nursing Home, where he had been a patient for the last six and one-half years.  He never married.  He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church.

 

Mr. Marx is survived by three sisters, Mrs. Bernard Haas, Neillsville, Mrs. Frank Dimmerman, White Bear Lake, Minn., and Mrs. James Caton of Eau Claire.  Several nieces and nephews also survive.

 

Pallbearers were August DeKennan, Carl Kessler, Harold Prock, Robert Schiller, Everett Skroch and Herbert M. Smith.

 

People from away here for the services were Mrs. Frank Dimmerman, White Bear Lake, Minn.; Mrs. James Caton, Mr. and Mrs. James F. Caton and Donald Caton, Eau Claire; Mr. and Mrs. James Haas, Barron; and Mr. and Mrs. M. J. Haas of Tucson, Ariz.
