Westphal, Mr. and Mrs. Claude (Golden - 26 June 1962)

 

Mr. and Mrs. Claude Westphal celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary Sunday at the home of their son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Walter Johnson, on West Fifth Street.

 

Claude Westphal, son of Mr. and Mrs. William Westphal of Neillsville and Margaret Wegner, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Carl Wegner of Pine Valley, were married in Immanuel Lutheran Church, Globe June 26, 1912. The Rev. Herman Brandt of Neillsville officiated.

 

After the wedding the newlyweds went to housekeeping in Greenwood, where Mr. Westphal was employed.  They moved to Neillsville in 1916 residing on East Sixth Street.  In 1933 they moved to the present location at 407 West Fifth Street.

 

Claude Westphal was born August 17, 1891, in the Martin Hauge residence on East Fifth Street; Mrs. Westphal was born May 16, 1894, on the Timmler farm near Pine Valley Mound.

 

Mr. Westphal was employed 39 years with the Northwestern Railroad as section foreman on the Marshfield to Merrillan run, in other areas of Wisconsin and as foreman of an extra gang, a job which took him as far as Omaha, Nebr.  He retired in November, 1957.

 

Mr. and Mrs. Westphal are the parents of four children and five grandchildren.  The daughter, Mrs. Walter (Evelyn) Johnson of Neillsville and three sons: Harry, who drowned in Lake Arbutus October 22, 1933; William of Framingham, Mass.; and Marvin of Norfolk, Nebr.

 

The golden wedding was celebrated by the family at a dinner Sunday noon and at a luncheon for others at 4:30 p.m. Sunday.

 

Mrs. Victor Schlinkert made the wedding cake and Robert Johnson, a grandson of Mr. and Mrs. Westphal, furnished the floral displays.  Members of the family attending the celebration included: Mr. and Mrs. Walter Johnson and Robert of Neillsville; Mrs. William Westphal and children, Sandra and Billy of Framingham, Mass.; Mr. and Mrs. Marvin Westphal and son Monte, of Norfolk, Nebr.  The son Marvin (William), and grandson Dennis Johnson, were unable to attend.
