Anderson, Evelyn J. (15 JUN 1943)

St. John’s Evangelical and Reformed Church was the scene of a pretty wedding at two o’clock Tuesday afternoon, June 15, when Miss Evelyn Jane Anderson and Elwyn R. Smith, Ph. M. 3/C of the Navy, were united in marriage by the Rev. Norman J. Dechant.  The bride is a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Gustaf H. Anderson.  The groom is the son of Mrs. Frankie M. Smith of Oxford, Ind., and is located at the Great Lakes naval Training Station.

Mrs. Willard Waters sang "O Perfect Love" and "I Love You Truly," with Mrs. William Theiler as accompanist at the organ.  The muted strains of "Liebestraum" formed a background for the ceremony.

The bride entered with her father, who gave her in marriage.  She wore a dressmaker suit of powdered blue crepe, a sheer picture hat in navy blue, and pearls.  Her corsage was of sweetheart roses and baby mums.  The bridesmaid, Miss Hilda Laffe, wore a rose suit, with pillbox hat, white accessories, and a corsage much like the bride’s.  The groom wore his blue Navy uniform and was attended by Elwin Pierce of Neillsville.  Large bouquets of bridal wreath and white iris were arranged on either side of the altar.

A wedding reception was held in the church basement for the immediate families and friends.  The table was appropriately decorated in red, white and blue.  Out of town guests were the groom’s mother, Mrs. Frankie M. Smith of Oxford, Ind., Captain and Mrs. Ernest E. Holmberg and sons, Fort Atkinson, Mr. and Mrs. Nicholas Legers and daughter, DePere, and Mrs. H. Isherwood and son, Plover.

A wedding dance was given the same evening in the town hall.  Mr. and Mrs. Smith then left on a short wedding tour of Wisconsin.

Mr. Smith is a graduate of Central Normal College in Indiana.  The bride is a graduate of our local high school (Humbird, Clark Co., Wis.) and Business College, and has been employed by Dr. Loyal Davis, and the Surgical Publishing Co. of Chicago, for the past four years.  The couple will be at home in Chicago after June 28, at the Grodon Terrace Apt. Hotel, North Clarendon Ave.

A prenuptial event was a linen shower given for the bride by Mrs. J. Trachsel on Saturday, June 5.
