Hart, Ben A. (9 NOV 1891 - 30 JUL 1942)

 

Ben A. Hart was born to Mr. and Mrs. Ben Hart Nov. 9, 1891, in the town of Pine Valley (Clark Co., Wis.).  he grew to young manhood in the town of Hewett, where he attended the rural school.

 

On May 27, 1918, he was inducted into the army and spent fourteen months overseas in the signal corps as a chauffeur and messenger carrier.  While in the army he was promoted to corporal and was cited for another promotion when the armistice was signed.  He was honorably discharged in July 1949, and returned to his mother’s home.

 

Mr. Hart went to Centralia, Wash. in 1920, where he worked in the lumber industry.  He operated engines there several years.  He returned in 1926 to the town of Hewett and purchased a farm adjoining his mother’s place.

 

On Sept. 3, 1927, he was united in marriage with Miss Ruth Kurtzweg of Neillsville, and to this union one daughter, Laurel, was born.

 

In 1936 he learned the welder’s trade in Minneapolis, the same year selling his farm, and moving to Humbird, purchased a home, and engaging in the welding work, having  a location in C.P. Olson’s garage.  He was an expert workman, and repair work came to him from a large surrounding territory.

 

Mourn his death, which occurred July 30, 1942, are his wife and daughter Laurel, his mother, Mrs. Dan Cook, and a large circle of friends.

 

At the funeral services Monday, pallbearers were members of the Otto A. Haugen post of Neillsville: Art bones; Phil Zimmer, Art Russell, Frank Brown, Robert Wagner, and Harold Pischer.

 

Mr. Hart reached the age of 50 years, 8 months and 21 days.
