Sichler, Carl (29 AUG 1867 - 15 NOV 1941)

 

Carl Sichler, son of Rupert and Margaret Sichler, pioneer residents of the town of Garden Valley (Jackson Co., Wis.), was born on the old home farm Aug. 29, 1867, where all of the children were born, and where the family has lived continuously for over 80 years, and now in charge of the second generation.  Her too carl lived most of his life, with the exception of the last few years, which were spent in Humbird (Clark Co., Wis.).

 

On Aug. 29, 1894, he was united in marriage to Miss Grace Stockwell of Alma Center.  Five children were born to this union, two of whom, namely Margaret and Lewis, preceded him in death.

 

Mr. Sichler has been in failing health for some time, and was taken to the hospital at Black River Falls last week for treatment, where he passed away on Saturday evening, Nov. 15, 1941, at the age of 74 years, 2 months and 16 days.

 

He leaves to mourn his departure, three children, Clarence of Alma Center, Bessie of Reedsburg, and Vance of Madison; three sisters, Miss Emma Sichler, at home, Mrs. Mary Ringrose and Mrs. Tracy Hanby of Garden Valley.; and one brother, Will Sichler, on the home place.  There are eight grandchildren, besides other relatives and friends.

 

Funeral services were held at the Alma Center Methodist Church Tuesday, Nov. 18 at 2:00 p.m.  The pastor, Rev. C. H. Pierstorff using as his text Psalm 39:4, "Lord, make me to know mine end and the measure of my days, what it is; that I may know how frail I am."  Rev. and Mrs. Pierstorff sang two sacred duets, accompanied by Mrs. Virgil Held as pianist, "We are Going Down the Valley" and "The Eastern Gate."  Interment was in the Alma Center Cemetery.

 

A large congregation of old neighbors and friends assembled at the church for the burial services of this old settler.
