Mary was born in rural Thorp on July 27, 1930, to Joseph and Stella (Lato) Grabowski. After spending her childhood on her parents farm south of Thorp, she moved to Chicago where she worked at Montgomery Wards.  She met Walter Krzyzanowski and on September 17, 1949, they were married. Wally and Mary took over the Krzyzanowski family farm where they raised their eight children.

Mary was a homemaker and later worked at the Thorp School as a cook.  Upon retirement, Wally and Mary moved to their home in the woods.  Mary was a member of the Rock Dam Rod-n-Gun Club, St. Bernard-St., Hedwig’s Catholic Church and its PCCW, and the Legion Auxiliary.  She enjoyed fishing, playing cards, polka dancing, and gardening.  She could take a few handfuls of flowers, weeds, and sticks and make a beautiful arrangement.

Mary was able to do a lot of traveling with her family and friends.  She was able to visit Florida, North Carolina, Colorado, Oklahoma, Las Vegas, Cancun, Jamaica and Hawaii.

Mary is survived by eight children: Bob (Janice) Krzyzanowski of Thorp, Donna (Ken) Grajkowski of Spencer, Angie McCredden of Thorp, Joseph (Kathy) Krzyzanowski of Austin, MN, Allan (Stephanie) Krzyzanowski of Thorp, Bill (Gina) Krzyzanowski of Neillsville, Cynthia (Karl) Hartkemeyer of Eau Claire, and Sharon (Ray) Gutowski of Plover, WI; 26 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; four sisters: Amy (Joe) Janowski, Sister Rose Grabowski, Stella Bushell, and Patricia Grabowski; three brothers: Joseph (Ann) Grabowski, Larry (Diane) Grabowski, and Steve (Michelle) Grabowski.

She was preceded in death by: her infant daughter, Dianna; her loving husband, Wally; sisters: Dorothy Komis and Theresa Grabowski; her parents, Stella and Joseph Grabowski; and a son-in-law, Pat McCredden.

Mary was a loving mother, wife, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend.  We will treasure all the wonderful memories we had with her and will miss her beautiful smile and sense of humor.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Thorp Catholic School in Mary’s memory.
