Prust, Valmore L. (3 APR 1935 - 17 MAY 2011)

Valmore L. "Butch" Prust, 76, of Marshfield, passed away Tuesday, May 17, 2011, at Ministry Saint Joseph's Hospital under the tender care of Ministry Home Care Hospice with his family by his side.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 21, 2011, at Hansen-Schilling Funeral Home in Marshfield. The Rev. Chris Schwanz will officiate. Burial will be in the Yolo Cemetery, Chili, at a later date.

A time of visitation will be held from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, May 20, and again from 10 a.m. until time of services Saturday, all at the funeral home.

Butch was born April 3, 1935, in Marshfield, the son of William and Freida (Bresemann) Prust. He graduated from Marshfield High School. Butch enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1956 and was stationed in Germany, serving in the 57th Battalion as a forward observer in the Artillery Coordinator Unit until his honorary discharge in 1958. He was united in marriage June 25, 1960, to his one true love, Virginia Gardner, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Marshfield.

Butch worked at Felker Brothers, Pentatread Tires and Clover Cream Dairy all the while becoming a master craftsman. He then became a carpenter, building, remodeling and finishing homes, working side by side with Alvin Brock, among others. Butch also built signs, toy boxes and other wood projects.

He loved to spend time with family and close friends at his cabin. Butch cherished his time with his family and especially his grandchildren. He also liked the outdoors, especially hunting and fishing. Butch loved to play his harmonica to whoever would listen and also played accordion. He also liked to travel to Florida, Branson and Nashville with Virginia.

Butch is lovingly survived by his wife of 50-plus years, Virginia Prust, Marshfield; two children, Lorie (Tim) Adler, Marshfield, and Larry Prust (Re'Nae Ostrander), Wisconsin Rapids; four grandchildren, Michael and Daniel Adler, Maranna and Dylan Ferkey; and a great-grandson, Bryce. He is further survived by two sisters, Elaine (Harry) Panzer and Joyce (Hubie) Pischel, both of Marshfield; nieces and nephews, whom he dearly loved; two sisters-in-law, Betty Jo Prust and Irene Gardner; and a brother-in-law, Jon (Kathi) Gardner.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his in-laws, Henry and Marie Gardner; three brothers, Kenneth, Norbert and Gene Prust; one sister, Marge Pilsner; and a brother-in-law, Merlin Gardner.

The Prust family would like to thank Ministry Home Care Hospice and the Palliative Care Staff for their wonderful care and compassion. They would also like to thank their family and friends for their loving support and patience, especially Megan and Leah.
