Baum, Walter (23 FEB 1924 - 20 OCT 1960)

Funeral services for Walter Baum, a former resident of the Withee (Clark Co., Wis.) community and who of late years made his home at Black River Falls, Wis., were held on Oct. 25th.

Brother David Morehouse officiated at the services held at the Hoeper and Kraut Funeral Home.  Burial was made at Riverside Cemetery.  Pallbearers at the service were Walter Hacke, Alfred Mandel, Ted Petke, Michael Woss, Charles Hinke and Glen Stubreed.  In charge of the floral offerings were Mrs. Paul Scymazak, Mrs. Ruby Bjorn, Mrs. Alfred Mandel and Mrs. Charles Hinke.

Members of his family and relatives were stunned when they learned of his tragic death which occurred Oct. 20th, 1960 when the semi-truck unit he was driving collided with a train at a crossing near Crystal lake, Ill., at 8:25 p.m.

Walter Baum, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Gustav Baum of Hialeah, Fla., was born Feb. 23, 1924 in the Town of Hixon, Clark Co.  He was educated in the Withee school system and later was engaged in farming in the Town of Hixon, until seven years ago when he moved to Black River Falls where he has been in the trucking business.

He was married twice, with his passing being mourned by three children, Lloyd, Ruth and Joan, Withee, children of his first marriage, and Anita and Patricia of Black River Falls, who are the children of his wife, the former Ruby Barclay of Black River Falls.  Other survivors are his parents, and four brothers, Edward and Arnold, Withee, Gustav, Chicago, and Elmer of Norfolk, Va.
