Gygi, Charmaine (13 AUG 1960)

The Holy Cross Catholic Church, Cornell, was the setting for a pretty wedding when Charmaine A. Gygi and Dean D. Welker exchanged vows before Carl Meyer, O.M.I., on Saturday, Aug. 13, 1960.  The double ring ceremony was performed at 10:00 o’clock in the morning before an altar embanked with mixed garden flowers.  The church choir furnished the nuptial music.

Parents of the bridal couple are Mr. and Mrs. Henry A. Gygi of Holcombe and Mr. and Mrs. Bud Welker of Owen (Clark Co., Wis.).

The bride was given in marriage by her father.  She wore a floor length gown of embroidered Point de’ Esprit which featured a Sabrina neckline and traditional long tapered sleeves, complementing the fitted basque.  The bell shaped full skirt was detailed with a scalloped edge redingote over gossamer sheer tulle.  The French imported silk illusion veil was held by a Swedish crown which was designed in a queenly fashion of pearl arches with tiny pearl drops.  To complete her attire she carried a cascade bouquet of red roses, stephanotis and white carnations.  Her only jewelry was pearl earrings, a gift of the groom.

Miss Joan Welker, Owen, the groom’s sister, was maid of honor.  The bride’s friend, Miss Gloria Hollen of Minneapolis, Minn., was bridesmaid.  They wore identical gowns in shrimp color of silk organza.  The full skirts were in street length and the bodice featured a scoop neckline and short sleeves which were complemented by added detail of lace inserts on the midriff and border of the skirt, and bow in the back.  Headgear was matching daisy cloches with blush feil and they carried white and shrimp colored carnations.  Their ensemble was completed by wearing earrings which were a gift to them by the bride.

Phillip Lukowicz, Sheboygan, was best man, and Henry A. Gygi Jr., Holcombe, was groomsman.  Eldon Johnson of Cornell and Jerome Thorson of Neenah were ushers.  The groom and all his attendnats wore black suits with white carnation boutonnieres.

Following the ceremony a noon dinner was served to 350 guests in the church basement.  Miss Jackie Gygi was in charge of the guest book.  Mrs. Sandra Schoonover was in charge of cutting the wedding cake and Misses Sharon and Betty Schlough opened the gifts.  A wedding dance was held in the evening at the Holcombe Town Hall.

Mrs. Gygi was present at her daughter’s wedding wearing a white linen dress with white accessories.  Mrs. Welker selected a brown brocaded dress and wore beige accessories.  Both mothers wore white and bronze carnation corsages.

Mr. and Mrs. Welker will make their home in Milwaukee upon their return from northern Wisconsin and Michigan wedding trip.  Mr. Welker will attend the Wis. Institute of Mortuary Science this fall.

Out of town guests attending the wedding were from Minneapolis, Minn., Neenah, Sheboygan, Ladysmith, Medford, Dorchester, Owen, Withee, Stanley, Cornell, Boyd, Wausau, Marshfield and Milwaukee.
