Newspaper Men Form Association (Central Wisconsin Publishers Association - 20 Mar 1914)

Last Friday afternoon and evening about thirty-five newspaper publishers of Central Wisconsin gathered in convention at Marshfield for the purpose of organizing an association for their mutual benefit and uplift of the profession.  The afternoon session was held at the city hall and was principally an informal discussion of various phases of the printing business and problems that confront the publishers along various lines.  At this meeting an organization of newspaper men of Central Wisconsin was undertaken and a committee appointed to draft constitution and by-laws.  At 7 o’clock a banquet was served at the Blodgett Hotel and a fine discussion of methods for improving the average country newspaper was given by M.C. Douglass, editor of the Dunn County News.  Mr. Douglass is a newspaper man of metropolitan and country newspaper experience and the points that he brought up were valuable from every angle, for they had all been tried out and found to be successful.  At the conclusion of his address, the Central Wisconsin Publishers Association was formed and the following officers elected: E.B. Barr of the Marshfield Times was elected president, L. Williamson of the Neillsville Times was elected vice-president and B.W. Walters of the Mosinee Times was selected secretary and treasurer.  The following executive committee J.J. Voemastack of the Rib Lake Herald, W.A. Drumb of the Grand Rapids Tribune, E.B. Thayer of the Wausau Pilot, Henry Berner of the Antigo Journal, E.D. Glennon of the Stevens Point Journal, Robert G. Lee of the Tomahawk Leader.

The Marshfield newspaper men accorded the visitors every courtesy possible and the publishers were all gratified with the treatment that they generally received at Marshfield.
