Means, John #2 (3 DEC 1876 - 29 MAR 1960)

 

John Henry Means passed away peacefully in a Madison hospital March 29th, 1960, shortly after suffering a heart attack while visiting at the home of his son Waldo.

 

Funeral services were held Friday, the first of April, from the Hoeper and Kraut Funeral Home, Owen.  Rev. Ralph Claybaugh of the First Congregational Church officiated, with burial being made at Riverside Cemetery.

 

Vocal selections were rendered by Mrs. Donald Marshall, Thorp.  Mrs. Pete Christophersen, Withee, served as accompanist.

 

Pallbearers were Walter and Elton Fritz, Pentha Puro, Fred Hoeper, Cornel Erickson, and Charles Jennings.  Carrying the floral offerings were Mesdames Cornel Erickson, Fred Hoeper, Pentha Puro, and Clarence Stephens.

 

Mr. Means was born Dec. 3, 1876 in Brown County, Ill., and on Sept. 16, 1903, was united in marriage to Bertha Jane Bond in a ceremony performed at Mount Sterling, Ill.  In 1915 the couple moved to this community where he was employed for many years as shipping clerk at the Master Package Corp., and was also an employee of Western Condensing Co. until his retirement in 1945.  Since that time the couple has made their home on a small farm in the Town of Hoard (Clark Co., Wis.).

 

Mourning his passing are his wife, one son, Waldo, of Madison, and one daughter, Mrs. Ernest (Alice) Schauer, route 2, Edgar; seven grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren.

 

Among the relatives and friends from out of town attending the service were: Mr. and Mrs. Waldo Means, Madison; Mr. and Mrs. E.H. Schauer, Rib Falls; Mr. and Mrs. Allen Machkoveck and two children, Susan and Gerald, Beaver Dam; Mr. and Mrs. Richard Means and children, Appleton; Mr. and Mrs. Duane Means, Roseville; Mr. and Mrs. Norman Schauer, Marathon; Harold, Dorothy and Janet Schauer, Rib Falls; Mr. and Mrs. Cyril Bornheimer and daughter, Carol, Edgar; Mrs. Ben Graffunder and son, Eugene, and Mrs. Barney Voelker of Abbotsford.
