Christman, Irene (D.A.R. Award - FEB 1960)

Irene Christman has received the D.A.R. award and will now compete in the state contest for the Daughters of the American Revolution "good citizenship" award.  These girls were chosen by the Senior Class voting for the girl they thought most deserving to receive the award.  The faculty then voted on the three girls who received the most votes by the Seniors.  Their decision was based on four characteristics: dependability, service, leadership and patriotism.

Irene will now write a 500 word essay - "Faith of Our Father - Living Still."  This essay will then be entered in a state contest along with those of representatives from other schools.  The first prize winner will receive a  $100 savings bond and be eligible to compete in the national contest, along with the other state winners.  The second prize winner will receive a $25 savings bond and third prize winner a $15 savings bond.

The D.A.R. award is regarded as a very high honor since the Daughters of the American Revolution is one of the most patriotic organizations in the United States.  It is made up of women citizens of the United States whose ancestors once fought for independence in the Revolutionary War.
