Larsen, Emil (24 SEP 1880 - 1 JUN 1959)

 

Emil Larsen, 78, former resident of Owen (Clark Co., Wis.), passed away Monday evening, June 1, 1959, at the home of his son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Webber at Ontonagon, Mich.

 

He was born Sept. 24, 1880 in Fredrikstad, Norway and came to the United States in 1900.  He resided in Omaha, Neb. for one year.  In 1901 he came to Owen where he was employed by the John S. Owen Lumber Co.  The mill closed in 1931 but he remained in their employment until all operations were completed in 1935.  While in Owen he was a member of the volunteer fire department and served as fire chief for many years.  He also served as Alderman on the common council from the Second Ward.  He was a member of the Modern Woodmen and Knights of Pythias Lodges.

 

He was married to Kristine Braathen in 1902 in Owen.  They moved to Ontonagon, Mich. in 1936 where he was employed as Planing Mill Superintendent for the Lake Superior Lumber Corp. until the mill close in 1949.  Since the death of his wife in October 1953 he has made his home with his son-in-law and daughter.

 

Surviving are three sons, Casper of Cortina, Calif., Oscar of Tucson, Ariz., and Elmer of Easton, Pa.; one daughter, Mrs. Elmer Webber of Ontonagon, Mich.; one sister, Mrs. Harry Hansen, and one brother, Christian, both of Omaha, Neb.; eight grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

 

The body was at the Allen Cane Funeral Home in Ontonagon where services were held Wednesday afternoon with the Rev. James McKeever officiating.  He was then taken to the Hoeper and Kraut Funeral Home in Owen and funeral services were held Friday afternoon from the Congregational Church with Rev. Ralph Claybaugh officiating, and Mrs. Donald Marshall was soloist.  Burial was made in the family lot at Riverside Cemetery.

 

Serving as casket bearers were Julius Johnson, Henry Wollum, Albert Bakke, Henry Anderson, Einar Jackson and E.C. Olds.

 

Flower bearers were Mesdames Ray Gabriel, Henry Anderson, C.M. Toraason, Carl Holverson and Harold Laabs.

 

Relatives attending the funeral included Mrs. Harry Hansen and Christian Larsen of Omaha, Neb.; Clifford Larsen, Milwaukee; Mr. and Mrs. Robert Larsen and Mr. and Mrs. Don French of St. John’s Mich.; Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Webber of Ontonagon, Mich.; and the three sons, Casper, Oscar and Elmer.
