Milliren, Fred (1893? - 24 MAR 1959)

Fred Milliren, father of C.F. Milliren, Withee (Clark Co., Wis.), was killed outright Tuesday when a barrel, used as a boiler in thawing out frozen water pipes, exploded at the farm home of his daughter, Mrs. Robert Singerhouse, near Nelson.

Milliren, whose home is at Durand, was 65 years of age.

Death, according to Buffalo County coroner Dr. E. A. Meili of Cochrane, was due to a skull fracture.

Mr. Milliren’s son-in-law, who had been working with him, had gone down into the well just before the explosion.

The force of the blast threw Mr. Milliren against the house, about 20 feet from where he was working.  The barrel was used as a boiler, with copper tubing running steam from there to the water pipes.

Mr. Milliren is survived by his wife, Mary; five sons, Claire of Withee, Bernard, Roy and Giles of Arkansaw, and Martin of Plum City; three daughters, Mrs. Robert Singerhouse, Nelson, Mrs. Frank Bechel, Plum City, and Mrs. DeWayne Glaus, St. Paul, and 33 grandchildren.

Two sisters and three brothers also survive: Mrs. John Lammer and George Milliren of Menomonie, Mrs. Martin Engel and Arthur of Chippewa Falls and Richard Milliren of Chicago, Ill.

Funeral services were held Saturday morning at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Durand.  The Rosary was recited Friday evening at the Rhiel Funeral Home.
