Reineking, Norman E. (13 MAR 1920 - March 7, 2011)

Norman E. Reineking, age 90, formerly of Colby, was born into eternal life March 7, 2011, at home surrounded by his family.

Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, March 12, 2011, at the Maurina-Schilling Funeral Home, Abbotsford. The Rev. Kenneth A. Dix will officiate. Visitation will be held from 4:30-7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. The visitation will begin with a Masonic Service at 4:30 p.m. Friday. On Saturday, visitation will be held one hour prior to service time. Burial will be in the Immanuel United Church of Christ Cemetery, Greenwood.

Norman was the oldest of three children, born to Olga (Meinholdt) and Otto Reineking in the town of Mead, Clark County, Greenwood, Wisconsin.

Norman received his education in the Greenwood School district. He went on to Central State Teacher’s College in Stevens Point. He graduated in 1941, and took a position in a one-room school in Greenwood.

On March 16, 1943, he was inducted into the US Army where he served as a medic attached to the 1st Battalion, 310th Infantry of the 78th Division. His unit was the first to go over the Remagen Bridge in Germany. Norman received the following medals and ribbons: the Bronze Star, the Victory Medal, the American Theater Ribbon, the European, African, Middle Eastern Theatre ribbon and 3 Bronze Battle Stars, 2 Over Seas Service Ribbons, Good Conduct Medal, and the Distinguished Unit Badge. After his discharge he worked in the banking industry until retiring in 1982.

Norman met the love of his life, Sophie Bizjak, on a Saturday night at a dance hall in Willard and they have been dancing ever since. They were married on April 19, 1944, at the Immanuel United Church (West Side Church) in Greenwood, WI.

Norman was a member of the First United Church of Christ in Colby and the following organizations: Midland Mutual Insurance Companies, Juneau, WI, Clark-Taylor Counties Banking Assoc., Colby Chamber of Commerce, Clark Co. Historical Society, Lodge of Free and Accepted Masons of Greenwood and Owen, the Colby V.F.W. and the American Legion.

Bowling, golf, wood-working, dancing and family trips were very important to Norman.

Norman is lovingly survived by his wife, Sophie Reineking, Marshfield; children, Gail M. (David) Jaeger, Wausau, Gene E. (Mary Lee) Reineking, Almond and Wayne G. (Jain Skaar) Reineking, Marathon; grandchildren, Erik C. Kubs, Novi, Mich., and Aaron D. Reineking, Mauston; and great grandchildren, Carissa Kaylan Kubs-Taylor, Fort Mills, SC and Alec John Kubs, Novi, Mich.; sister, Eldora (Dale) Vollrath, Green Bay, as well as many other extended family and friends.

He was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Charlotte and sister, Elvera Humke.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial will be established in Norman’s memory.
