Kalsow, Albert (25 February 1874 - October 1961)

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday for Mr. Kalsow, who but recently observed his 60th wedding anniversary. The Rev. Norman Lindloff was in charge.  Burial was made in the Neillsville City Cemetery.

Driver of the automobile involved was Mrs. Cecil (Janice) Minnette of Neillsville. She was to appear in court Wednesday afternoon on a charge of failing to yield the right-of-way to a pedestrian in a marked pedestrian lane.

Mr. Kalsow was crossing Hewett Street from the Becker corner toward the A & P Store when the accident happened.  Mrs. Minette told City police she did not see him. She had been parked, just prior to the mishap, in front of Berger’s store, about one-half block south of the cross walk.

Mrs. Henry Markwardt and Russell Acheson, both of Neillsville, told City police that they witnessed the accident. They said the car was moving slowly.  Kalsow was more than halfway across the intersection when hit.

No mark was found on the car to indicate the impact, and Police Chief Lawrence Drescher expressed that belief that Mr. Kalsow had suffered a skull fracture when his head came in contact with the pavement.

He was removed by ambulance to Memorial Hospital.

Chief Drescher reported that skid marks of but 2 ½ feet in length were found on the pavement leading to the Minette car.  The car was stopped with the front just over the marked crosswalk zone and Mr. Kalsow lay about six feet from the car.

Mr. Kalsow, son of the late Frederick and Amelia (Klueckman) Kalsow, was born February 25, 1874, in Johnson Creek.  He came to Clark County with his parents when he was a year old, and had lived in this area for 81 years.  On October 16, 1901, he was married to the former Mary Hoffman in Globe.  Mr. and Mrs. Kalsow resided in Milwaukee for five years.  In 1934 they returned here and since that time had resided in Neillsville.

He is survived by his wife and the following children: Victor Kalsow, Menomonee Falls; Mrs. Fala Gloff, Marshfield; Mrs. Edwin (Leona) Sternitzky, Rt. 1, Granton; and Mrs. Walter (Evelyn) Grottke, Rt. 3, Neillsville; a sister, Mrs. Ferdinand (Martha) Grap, Neillsville; and  brother, Lebrecht Kalsow, Neillsville; ten grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren, also survive.

The Georgas Funeral Home made funeral arrangements.  Pallbearers were: Hans, Marion and Roland Kalsow, Frederick Grap, Sr., William Hoffman, and Carl Hoffman.

"Lass Mich Gahn" and "A Pilgrim and a Stranger" were sung by Robert Mitte, accompanied at the organ by Victor Lehman.
