Barnes, Dorothy (22 May 1901 - 22 October 1961)

 

Funeral services are scheduled at 10:30 a.m. today (Thursday) from St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Greenwood for Mrs. R. L. Barnes, 60, wife of the Greenwood postmaster and lifelong resident of that city.

 

Mrs. Barnes died at 11:25 p.m. Sunday in a Rochester, Minn., hospital, where she had been a patient for about two and one-half weeks.

 

The services will be conducted by three pastors: The Rev. Edward E. Hartung of St. Mary’s at Greenwood; the Rev. L. V. Barnes of Indianola, Nebr., and the Rev. Noonan of Bailey’s Harbor. Burial will be made in St. Mary’s Cemetery.

 

Mrs. Barnes was born Dorothy Volk April 22, 1901, in Greenwood. She was graduated from Greenwood High School with the class of 1919, attended teachers’ college in Eau Claire, and taught for a few years at Tioga.  She then worked for a time as a clerk in a Greenwood store until her marriage to Dr. R. L. Barnes on October 11, 1924.

 

She was a member of St. Mary’s Church and of St. Ann’s Society.

 

Surviving in addition to her husband are: three daughters, Mrs. Irvin (Marion) Hoesly of Elm Grove, Mrs. Joane O’Neill of Madison, and Mrs. Ralph (Kathleen) Landini of Greenwood; two brothers, Perry J. Volk of Loyal and Floyd Volk of Belleview, Wash., her mother, Mrs. Anna Volk of Greenwood, who is presently a patient in a Marshfield hospital; and by six grandchildren.
