John Volovsek was born on July 16, 1929, in Willard, the son of Frank and Anna Volovsek. He attended Greenwood High School, helped on the family farm and worked with his brother in his brother’s cabinet shop, mastering his carpentry skills. He joined the United States Army on May 24, 1951, serving in Korean War as a radio operator and instructor until his honorable discharge on May 14, 1953. He then was a member of the United Stares Army Reserves until July 4, 1956. He married Arleen Wistrom on Aug. 22, 1953, in Marshfield. He moved his family to Superior, in 1965, when he took the position of head of maintenance/carpentry at the University of Wisconsin-Superior campus, where he worked until he retired in 1989. After suffering a stroke in 1990, he and his wife moved to New Branunfels, TX, where they enjoyed the warmer weather and some traveling before the passing of his wife in 2001.

He enjoyed hunting and fishing, singing in the church choir and spending time with his family. He had a kind heart and a great sense of humor and will be sadly missed by both friends and family alike.
