Tesmer, Shirley Jean (13 December 1922 - 21 March 2011)

 

Shirley J. Tesmer, 88, of Loyal died at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Marshfield, Monday March 21, 2011, surrounded by her loving family.

 

Shirley Jean Schmitz was born Dec. 13, 1922, in the Town of Fremont, Clark County, the daughter of William and Adelia (Kopf) Schmitz. She was raised on the family farm and received her education in area schools, graduating from Loyal High School in 1940. Shirley w as united in marriage to Eldred H. Tesmer July 15, 1942, at St. Stephen’s Catholic Church in Chili. Shirley farmed with her husband in the Town of Fremont and also worked at Weyerhauser in Marshfield for 20 years. They retired in 1985 and moved to Philips where they lived until moving to Loyal in 1997.

 

Shirley was a member of St. Anthony’s Catholic Church and a former member of St. Stephen’s Catholic Church in Chili, where she taught CCD for many years.  She had many interests but especially loved spending time with her family, plying cards and fishing.

 

She will be dearly missed by her husband, Eldred of Loyal; four children, Alan (Ellen) Tesmer of Chetek, James (Sherry) Tesmer of Madison, Joanne Tesmer of Marshfield, Susan (Bob) Devine of Racine; seven grandsons; 10 great-grandchildren; three brothers, Leroy Schmitz of Rib Lake, Marlin (Virginia) Schmitz of Granton, Gary Schmitz of Spencer; several nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.

 

She was preceded in death by her parents; one son, Warren Tesmer, Nov. 1, 2007; and one brother, Russell "Bud" Schmitz.

 

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, March 25, at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Loyal. Fr. Jerome Naduvathaniyil will officiate, and burial of cremains will take place in St. Anthony’s Catholic Cemetery at a later date. Visitation will be held at Cuddie Funeral Home in Loyal Thursday, March 24, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. with a 7:30 prayer service.  Visitation will also be held at the church Friday from 10 a.m. until time of service.
