County Wide (29 June 1961)

 

Jim Rice, Carolyn Craig and Donna Fortuna of Champions 4-H club of Hendren spent June 27 in Rice Lake, where they represented Clark County 4-H clubs in dairy cattle judging.

 

Jim Rice, son of Mr. and Mrs. James K. Rice of Hendren, received a first place trophy last week at the state junior livestock show.  He was graded on his Holstein entry and his interview.

 

Mr. and Mrs. Charles F. Brown announce that their grandson, Darrell Goodwin, who was catcher for the Neillsville baseball team two years ago, is engaged to be married in December.  He is attending Missouri State University and his bride-to-be is from Stehan College, Columbia, Mo.

 

William Poler, Robert Poler and sons fished at Long Lake near Cumberland last week. They caught northern pike, crappies, bass and walleyes.

 

Jean and Fern Vine, Joyce and Janice Foemmel, Town of Grant 4-H members, assisted in displaying diary products in a Neillsville super market last week.  

 

Mr. and Mrs. William Chambers, who are spending eight weeks of the summer in southern Wisconsin while Mr. Chambers attends summer school in Platteville, spent last weekend at their home in the Town of Grant.

 

Ross Lawrence, president of the Exchange Bank of Thorp, is on a motor trip to Oregon with his wife.  He expects to be gone three weeks.  His immediate destination was Hillsboro, Ore., with address in care of Eugene Marx.

 

Guests at the home of Mr. and Mrs. John Ormond, Sr., of Christie over the weekend were their son, Ted, from Camp McCoy, Jim Swift of Indiana, Frank Marshall of South Carolina, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Bayuk and Frankie and Beverly of Greenwood, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Zager, Mr. and Mrs. Pete Zager, Patsy and Bernie, all of Neillsville, and Mr. and Mrs. John Ormond, Jr. and children of Christie.

 

Carlotta Tichy, who recently graduated from Stout State College in Menomonie, is serving as summer home agent in Lincoln County with headquarters in Merrill.  She plans to spend next weekend with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Steve Tichy, in Christie.  She will attend a one-week seminar in August at the University of Wisconsin in Madison and teach home economics in Barron High School in the fall.

 

Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Oleson and three children, Geri Ann, eight, Terry, Seven, and Rita, 11 months, have arrived from West Allis and (portion missing) .
