Menning, Gertrude (3 September 1907 - 26 June 1961)

 

Funeral services were conducted Wednesday afternoon from the Georgas Funeral Home for Mrs. Albert Menning, 53, who died Monday in Memorial Hospital in Neillsville. The Rev. Otto Boettcher of Greenwood, pastor of the St. John’s Lutheran Church in Christie, officiated, and burial was made in the North Pine Valley Cemetery.

 

The former Gertrude Clausen was born September 3, 1907, in Preston, Iowa. She was the daughter of Iver Clausen and the late Herminnia (Tietjen) Clausen.  She received her education in Iowa and worked as a practical nurse before leaving Iowa for Chicago, Ill., where she resided until 1946.  She came to Clark County at that time and had lived here since. In 1956, she moved to the Town of Hewett.

 

On December 31, 1931 she was married to John Damgaard in Decorah, Iowa.  Her second marriage, to Albert Menning, took place September 27, in Chicago, Ill

 

Mrs. Menning is survived by her husband, and her father, Iver Clausen of Bryant, Iowa; and the following children from her first marriage, Mrs. Wilburt (Doris) Schultz, Camanche, Iowa; Mrs. William (Mary) Hribar, Willard; John E. Damgaard, Clinton, Iowa; and four step-children: Mrs. Clarence (Genevieve) Ziegler, Milwaukee; Leonard Menning, Chicago, Ill.; Mrs. Laverne (Joan) Jelden, Milwaukee; and Donald Menning in California. Other survivors include a sister, Mrs. Ben (Marcella) Bahnsen, Bryant, Iowa, and three grandchildren.

Pallbearers were: Wilburt Schultz, Leonard Menning, William Hribar, Merlon and Robert Schoengarth, and Bernard Walker.

 

"Abide With Me" and "Rock of Ages" were sung by Mrs. Donald Schultz, accompanied by Mrs. Jess W. Scott.
