New Stamps Are Forever (9 February 2011)

With its issuance of the "Lunar New Year" stamp Jan. 22, the U. S. Postal Service marked the beginning of its "all-Forever" commemorative stamp program - where all future commemorative First-Class Mail stamps will be Forever stamps.

The stamps’ value will always be equal to the Frist-Class Mail one-ounce rate for standard-sized envelopes no matter when they are used.

What about those years-old First-Class, non-denominated or "A," "B" and "C" letter stamps valued below the current 44-cent rate popping up in customers’ desk drawers and spare-change holders?

"There’s no need to worry," said Neillsville Postmaster Lisa Rae Schilling.  "They’re still good. Customers just need additional low-denomination stamps to match current postage rates - and there are plenty to go around."

With no plans to discontinue production of thee low-denomination make-up stamps, the Postal Service offers one-to five-cent and 10-cent stamps to help bridge the price gap.  They’re available at local post offices and, more conveniently, online at website www.usps.com by simply clicking on "buy stamps" and "shop".
