Gehrke, Ernest (1883? - 29 January 1961)

News has been received by relatives in this area of the death of Ernest Gehrke, 78, at Hancock January 29, in a nursing home.  Death was due to heart trouble.  The funeral was held from the Congregational Church February 2.  Burial was made beside his wife in the Hancock Cemetery.

Ernest Gehrke came to this country in 1884, with his parents when he was a year old. For some time he lived in Waukesha. About 1900 he came to Clark County, where in September 1906, he was married in Withee to Ruby Holcomb.

Born to the couple were the following sons and daughters: Louis of Lambath Falls, Ore.; Paul of Curtiss; Alfred and Donald of Owen; Julius of Waukesha; Mrs. Melvin (Margaret) Holmes of Plainfield, Mrs. Julian A. (Grace) Russel of Chicago Heights, Ill,.; and Alice, Julia and Russel, who died in childhood.

His surviving brothers and sister are Louis Gehrke of Withee, Julius Gehrke of Cadott and Mrs. Harry (Lena) Holcomb of Montana.  Also surviving are 18 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
