Welch, Lydia M. (14 MAY 1898 - 6 JAN 1962)

 

Mrs. Harold Welch, 63, wife of Rev. Harold Welch, pastor of the Salem Evangelical United Brethren Church of Dorchester, died Saturday at St. Joseph’s Hospital, Marshfield.  She had been in ill health for five years and was taken to the hospital Dec. 31.

 

The body lay in state at the Polnaszek Funeral Home, Abbotsford, and was taken to Dorchester for funeral services at the church at 2 o’clock Tuesday.  It was then taken to Salem Ridge Methodist Church near La Farge in Vernon Co. where services were held on Wednesday afternoon at 2 o’clock, followed by interment in the church cemetery.  The Rev. M. A. Simonson of Eau Claire officiated.

 

The former Lydia Marie Deaver was born May 14, 1898, in Webster Township in Vernon County.  She was married Oct. 25, 1917 in Viroqua to Harold Welch, and after their marriage, they farmed for a few years before Mr. Welch entered the ministry.  They came to Dorchester (Clark Co., Wis.) nine years ago.

 

Mrs. Welch was a member of the Ladies’ Aid and the Women’s Society of World Service of Salem Evangelical United Brethren Church.

 

She is survived by her husband, a daughter, Mrs. Max (Margaret) Miller, Sand Mateo, Calif.; two sons, Gaylord Welch, Fennimore, and the Rev. Gordon Welch, Ellsworth; nine grandchildren, and a brother, John Deaver, Viroqua.

 

A child died in infancy and eight brothers and sisters also preceded her in death.
