Anderson, Oscar (? - 18 October 1954)

One person was killed and two people injured as a result of an automobile collision which occurred about 6 p.m. Monday evening on Highway 98 about a mile west of Loyal.

The victim was Oscar Anderson, 50, of Neillsville, who died several hours after the accident in Memorial Hospital at Neillsville where he was taken by Myre ambulance.

His son Julian, 21, who arrived home only the day before on leave from the service, suffered a possible fractured shoulder blade and minor injuries.  He was treated at the Neillsville Memorial Hospital also.

The Anderson car hit an automobile driven by Henry Trybola, Willard. Trybola suffered minor injuries but was not held at the hospital.

According to reports, Anderson and his son were on their way to Loyal while the Trybola car was traveling west. Sheriff Frank Dobes, Coroner John Bergemann and Captain Bill Nelson of the traffic patrol were all called to the scene to investigate.

Following investigations and questioning of witnesses. Captain Nelson came to the conclusion that the Anderson auto was passing the auto of Bert Mengel.  Mengel pulled off on the shoulder of the road losing control of his car.  The Trybola auto, going west, also endeavored to evade the Anderson car but was hit broadside.  The Trybola auto was at a dead stop at the time according to Nelson.

Reports that the occupants of the Anderson auto had been drinking are also being investigated and charges are expected to be brought against the younger Anderson when he is released from the hospital.

The fatality was the second traffic death in this vicinity within a week. Duane Behnke, 17, was fatally injured in a motorcycle accident between Loyal and Granton last Friday afternoon.

Funeral services for Mr. Anderson have been set for 2 o’clock Thursday afternoon at the Georgas Funeral Home.  The Rev. Virgil Nulton will officiate and burial will be made in the Neillsville City Cemetery.
