Parent, Dewayne L. (1 October 1929 - 29 December 2010) With flag

 

Dewayne L. Parent, age 81, of Thorp, passed away on Wednesday, December 29, 2010, at Clairemont Nursing & Rehabilitation in Eau Claire.  Funeral services were held on Monday, January 3, 2011, at 11 a.m. at Thorp Funeral Home, with Rev. Rob Love officiating.  Burial followed in the Town of Butler Cemetery, rural Thorp.  Visitation was held on Monday, January 3, 2011, at Thorp Funeral Home from 9 a.m. until time of service.

 

Dewayne L. Parent was born on October 1, 1929, in Fargo, ND, the son of Albert and Beatrice (Montague) Parent.  He was raised in the Argyle, MN area where he received his education.  Dewayne enlisted into the U. S. Air Force on October 23, 1947, at Fort Sheridan, IL and served until his discharge from Walker Air Force Base in New Mexico, on November 2, 1951.  After his discharge, he worked as an electrician in Minnesota, North Dakota and Wisconsin.  He was united in marriage to Jeanette R. Burrington on December 25, 1957, at her grandmother’s house in the Town of Butler, rural Thorp. They lived for several years in Grand Forks, ND and Humbird, WI, before moving back to the Town of Butler in 1982, to care for Jeanette’s mother.

 

In his spare time, he enjoyed wood carving (especially birds), drawing, painting, and gardening.  He also enjoyed his Friday morning breakfasts at the Dairy Bar in Thorp with his friends.  He was a member of the Humbird American Legion Post #320.

 

He is survived by his son, Steven (Sandy Schneider) Parent of Thorp; one sister, Sharlene "Babe" Lunski of Grand Forks, ND; one sister-in-law, Betty Parent of Edinburg, TX; three sisters-in-law: Jean (Ralph) McIntyre of Elk Mound, WI; Beverly Burrington of Chippewa Falls, WI; Marylou Burrington of Thorp; many nieces, nephews and friends.

 

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Jeanette, on December 28, 2006; his brother, Ken "Butch" Parent, on September 14, 2010; and one sister, Darlene Parent; also, two brothers-in-law: Reuben and Fred Burrington; two sisters-in-law: Marjory and Betty Jean Burrington; and two nieces: Jackie Burrington and Rae Lynn Burrington.

 

Dewayne’s family would like to thank his neighbors, Scott and Lavonne Mason, for all their help during the past three months.
