Hoffman, Herman (11 JAN 1885 - 23 FEB 1961)

 

Herman Hoffman, 76, of Edgar, rt. 4, died Thursday at 10:15 p.m. at St. Joseph’s Hospital, Marshfield, where he underwent surgery the previous morning.

 

Funeral services were conducted Sunday afternoon at 2 p.m. at the Hansen Funeral Home, Marshfield, with the Rev. Frederick H. Giles, pastor of the Marshfield bible Center,  officiating.  Burial was made in the Ebenezer United Church of Christ Cemetery at Stratford.

 

Six nephews served as pallbearers: Leonard and Arthur Hoffman, Junior Gust, Alvin Krautzer, Henry Mahecke and Robert Viegut.

 

Mr. Hoffman was born Jan. 11, 1885 in Chicago, and at the age of 12 years came to the Stratford area with his parents.  His marriage to the former Lida Hagen took place in Stratford Sept. 7, 1910.

 

The couple farmed in that area until 1948, when they moved to Abbotsford.  Last September, Mr. and Mrs. Hoffman celebrated their golden wedding anniversary with their 13 children all present.  A few months ago, Mr. and Mrs. Hoffman moved to rural Edgar.

 

Surviving him are his widow; seven sons, Elmer, Mequon; Henry, Stratford; Clarence, Cornell; Harold, Waukon, Ia.; Arnold, Wausau; Herman Jr., Owen; and Lyle, Edgar; six daughters, Mrs. James (Hermina) Johnson, Lancaster, Calif.; Mrs. Charles (Lorinda) Rayner, Oshkosh; Mrs. Earl (Mabel) Eake, Oshkosh; Mrs. Elmer (Leonora) Leffel, Edgar; Mrs. Robert (Lorraine) Zasada, Abbotsford; and Mrs. Jerome (Ariene) Christophersen, Withee; 36 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchildren.

 

There are also two brothers, Charles and Edward of Wausau, and a sister, Mrs. Laura Miller in Germany.

 

He was preceded in death by an infant son.
