Porath, Neva  (19 FEB 1919-26 JAN 2002)

 

Neva Porath, 82, Merrillan, died on Saturday, Jan 26, 2002, at the Valley Memorial Nursing Home, Grand Forks, N.D. Visitation will be for one hour prior to a 2 p.m. funeral service on Saturday, Feb. 2, at the United Church of Christ, Neillsville. The Rev. James Mohr will officiate. Burial will be in the Neillsville Cemetery.

 

Neva Selves was born on Feb. 19, 1919, in Neillsville, to Hugh and Bess Rose Selves. She attended school in Neillsville. She graduated from Stout State University, eventually earning a master’s degree in education with credits toward a doctorate degree. She taught in Hixton, Alma Center, Black River Falls and Tomah. She married Herman Porath in October 1942, and they farmed in Black River Falls for many years. She judged at the Jackson County Fair for several years and w as still actively supporting the Oak Grove Community Center in Black River Falls.

 

Survivors include two sons, Gerald A. (Kathleen) Porath, Grand Forks, N.D., and Louie C. (Shirley) Porath, Cabot, Ariz.; four sisters, Irene Kapusta, Neillsville, Avis Martin, Mukwonago, Vivian Halle, Noblesville, Ind., and Mildred Ormond, Dover, Tenn,; four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

 

Preceding her in death were her parents; one brother, Elliot Selves; and one infant grandson, Patrick.
