Mellenthin, Kenneth G. (7 DEC 1928 - 29 NOV 2010)

 

SPENCER -- Kenneth Glenn Mellenthin, 81, formerly of Spencer, died Monday, Nov. 29, 2010, at Ministry Saint Joseph's Hospital.

 

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 2, 2010, at St. John's Lutheran Church ELCA. The Rev. Rebekah Tarras will officiate. A time of visitation will be held from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. today, Dec. 1, 2010, at the Hansen-Schilling Funeral Home in Spencer and again from 10 a.m. until service time Thursday at the church.

 

Kenneth was born Dec. 7, 1928, in the town of Unity (Clark Co., Wis.), the son of Arthur and Edna (Miller) Mellenthin. He attended Willow Brook School and graduated from Spencer High School in 1947.

 

On Feb. 25, 1948, Kenneth was united in marriage to the former Lois Freeman at St. John's Lutheran Church in Spencer. The couple owned and operated a local farm, and Kenneth also worked as a carpenter.

 

Mr. Mellenthin was a longtime member of St. John's Lutheran Church. He enjoyed woodworking, time at the cabin and rides on his pontoon boat. He always cherished time spent fishing with his grandchildren.

 

Kenneth is lovingly survived by his wife, Lois; children, Dianna (Frank) Jacobitz, Dennis (Karen) Mellenthin, Becky (James) Murphy, Ronald (Rebecca) Mellenthin, Julie (Bill) Ausbourne and Debra (Neil) Wakershauser. He is further survived by 12 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; siblings, Phyllis Simpson, Marilyn Hotsenpillar and Theone (Jack) Lundquist; as well as many other family and friends. He will truly be missed.

 

His parents, Arthur and Edna, a son-in-law, Steve Meidl, as well as a sister, Janice Porter, all preceded Kenneth in death.
