Marek, Stella "Roxie" #2 (23 FEB 1905 - 23 AUG 1956)

 

Stella (Roxie) Marek was fatally injured in a three-car collision at the intersection of Highways 82 and 13, south of Adams about 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 23rd, 1956.

 

Miss Marek died shortly after being removed to a Mauston hospital.  Her sister, Miss Rose Marek, 44, Chicago, Ill., a registered nurse and three other persons suffered undetermined injuries as a result of the crash.  The Marek sisters were on vacation and reported enroute to Wisconsin Dells.

 

Also injured in the accident were Mr. and Mrs. Dalhaimer of Sheboygan, and Irene Nast, Mineral Point.  The four injured persons also were taken to the Mauston Hospital.  Later, Rose Marek was transferred to Victory Memorial Hospital at Stanley.

 

Last rites were conducted by Rev. Father Piekarski, Rev. C. Chylicki and Rev. Eugene Konopga at St. Hedwig’s Catholic Church of Thorp, for Roxie Marek who was fatally injured in a three-car collision Wednesday, Aug. 23, passing away that day at the Mauston Hospital in that city.

 

The deceased was born on Feb. 23, 1905 at Duluth, Minn., and for the past thirteen years was proprietor of the Thorp Beauty Shop.  Roxie excelled as a beautician and her business flourished with each passing year, making many new friends.  She always took interest in community affairs being an active member of the Thorp Business Association.

 

She was preceded in death by her father and mother, Mr. and Mrs. Paul Marek.  Those surviving are four brothers, Walter and Leon of Thorp; John of Chicago and Joseph of Detroit, Mich.; and two sisters, Mrs. Joseph (Marie) Stipka of Proctor, Minn., and Rose Marek of Chicago, Ill.

 

Interment took place in St. Hedwig’s Cemetery.  Pallbearers were: Leon Kaczmarek, Joseph Panek, Dr. R. Stueser, Ed Kobylinski, John Osowski and Thomas Osowski.
