Slowiak, Dorothy (9 JUN 1956)

Miss Dorothy Slowiak, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Peter Slowiak, route 3, Stanley, became the bride of Harley Svoma, son of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Svoma of Stanley, at two-thirty p.m. on Saturday afternoon at St. Mary’s Czestochowa Church north of Stanley.  The Rev. Edward Sobczyk performed the double ring ceremony before a large gathering of relatives and friends.

Given in marriage by her father, the bride was attired in a white nylon tulle gown styled with a floor length skirt of three embroidered tiers over silk taffeta.  She carried a prayer book under an orchid tied with white streamers.  Her full illusion veil fell from a soft cap of lace with sequins and brilliants.

Miss Leona Liszewski, Franklin Park, Ill., was the maid of honor, and the bridesmaids were Mrs. Ray Slowiak, sister-in-law of the bride, also of Franklin Park, and Mrs. Gertrude Simon, Stanley, sister of the groom.  Their gowns of tone-shaded orchid nylon were fashioned with scooped, ruffled necklines and very bouffant skirts.  Each wore a headpiece of orchid net trimmed with orchid and yellow daisies, and each carried a feathered yellowed carnation bouquet on a yellow satin muff.

The flower girl was Debra Ebben, niece of the bride, Thorp.  Her Nile green gown was styled as the ones worn by the other bridal aides, and she wore a matching headpiece.  She carried feathered yellow carnations on a satin muff.

Ray Slowiak, Franklin Park, was the best man for his sister, and Gerald Simon, Stanley, was the groomsman.  Alois Olichwier, Stanley, and Gary Svoma, Cornell, ushered the guests to their seats.

A reception was held in the church parlors immediately following the ceremonies for 350 guests.  A wedding dance was held in the evening at Rainbow Gardens.  Mrs. Slowiak witnessed her daughter’s wedding wearing a teal blue dress, and the groom’s mother was attired in a grey and rose bemberg print, both with matching accessories and corsages.

The bride is a graduate of St. Anne’s Parochial and Stanley High Schools, and is employed as a punch press operator in Elmwood Park, Ill.  The groom, a graduate of Stanley High School, served four years in the U.S. Navy, and is employed as a time keeper in Elmwood Park, where the young couple are at home at 2104 North 73 Court.

Pre-nuptial events included showers by Mrs. Gerald Simon and Mrs. Thomas Wiles, another given by Mrs. Clifford Ebben and Mrs. Ed Olichwier, and others by fellow employees in Elmwood Park.
