Moczarny, Joseph J. (24 JAN 1889 - 8 JUN 1956)

 

Joseph John Moczarny, 57, passed away at his home in this city (Thorp, Clark Co., Wis.) early Friday morning, June 8th, 1956, of a heart attack which he suffered during the night.  Although he had been to the hospital a week previous for a checkup, he seemed to be in good health and pursued his regular duties up to the time of death.

 

The news of his death came as a sad shock to members of his family and friends.

 

The deceased was born in Chicago on Jan. 24, 1889.  He came to Thorp with his parents in 1902 and was brought up on a farm in the Town of Withee in which township he resided until about eight years ago when he and his family moved to the city of Thorp.

 

He was united in marriage to Mary C. Olichwier at Thorp on May 27, 1919.

 

Mr. Moczarny was an influential member of the local group of the Polish National Alliance, having served as recording secretary for 8 years and financial secretary for ? years, and attended four national conventions as a delegate.  He also served several years as treasurer of the Township of Withee and also treasurer of St. Hedwig’s Parish.

 

The past year he served as president of the Parent-Teachers Association of St. Hedwig’s school.

 

He leaves to mourn, besides his wife, two sons, Leon M. Moczarny, Wausau, Wis., and Father Chester B. Moczarny, St. Adelbert’s Parish, Rosholt, Wis.; four daughters, Irene, Mrs. L. Zoromski, Neenah, Wis., Louise, Mrs. Wm. O’Neill, Chippewa Falls, Margie, Mrs. Leon Skalecki and Mary Ann Moczarny, of Thorp; two sisters, Angeline, Mrs. Elmer Johnson, Eau Claire, and Stella, Mrs. James Wolf of Chicago.

 

The funeral was held at St. Hedwig’s Catholic Church at 10:30 o’clock, Monday, June 11th.  A Solemn Requiem High Mass was celebrated by the deceased’s son, Father Chester B. Moczarny, assisted by Father Francis Piekarski, Deacon, Father Herbert Zoromski, Sub-deacon, and Father C. Chilicki as Master of Ceremonies.  The Rev. Francis Piekarski, Pastor of St. Hedwig’s Parish, preached the funeral sermon.  Other priests assisting at the funeral Mass were Father Francis Pryzybylski of St. Bronislaus, Poler, and Father Edw. Sobczyk of St. Mary’s Czestochowa, Stanley, Wis.

 

Interment took place in St. Hedwig’s Parish New Cemetery.  Pallbearers were Jos. Tobola, Michael Kaminski, Paul Cukla, John Maslowski, Jos. Czech and Jos. Panek.

Burygraf, Rt. 2, Athens, Wis., Peter Rombalski, Vesper, Wis., Richard Rossiler, Marshfield, Wis., Bernard Schriber, Marshfield, Wis., John Krosowski, St. Mike’s Wausau, Michael Mertens, Viroqua, Wis., George Nelson, St. Paul Church, Mosinee, Wis., H. Simmons, St. John’s Rt. 2, Almond, Wis., S. R. Longowski, St. Patrick’s, Rt. 2, Amherst, Wis., Raymond Peters, St. Joseph’s Hospital, Chippewa Falls, Wis., Thad. Sczerbiecki, Casel, Wis.

 

The following friends and relatives from out of town were here to attend the funeral of Jos.
