Riedel, Lloyd L. (17 SEP 1924 - 14 OCT 2010)

Lloyd Lynn Riedel, 86, met his Lord on Thursday, Oct. 14, 2010, at Miller's Alternative Care surrounded by his family.

Mr. Riedel was born Sept. 17, 1924, in the town of Lynn to Arthur and Mamie (Schmidt) Riedel. He received his first- through 12th-grade education in Granton, and continued with courses for electrical, welding and refrigeration throughout his early adulthood.

Lloyd married Esther Seehafer on Dec. 28, 1944. Three children were born to the couple: Kathleen (Richard) Jolin, Minocqua, Larry (Susan) Riedel, Wisconsin Rapids, and Thomas (Judy) Riedel, Pittsville. In addition they have five grandchildren, Lori Riedel, Altoona, Michael Riedel, Milwaukee, Lisa Riedel, Washington, D.C., Valeen Riedel, Wisconsin Rapids, and Jon (Sara) Bertolino, Hampshire, Ill.; one step-grandson, Brad (Karla) Jolin, Middleton; and two step-great-grandchildren, Cooper and Samuel Jolin, Middleton.

Lloyd has three brothers, Clifford (Dorothy) Riedel, Marshfield, Don (Julie) Riedel, Loveland, Colo., and Dale (Gloria) Riedel, Chili; a sister-in-law, Dorothy (Clifford) Riedel, Marshfield; and a brother-in-law, Don (Jean) Seehafer, Manitowoc.

Mr. Riedel was a prominent farmer for a number of years, building a milking parlor to the quality of the University of Wisconsin Experimental Station in Marshfield in 1957. He especially enjoyed giving tours of his milking parlor. Lloyd left farming to open Riedel Electric and Refrigeration with an interest installing bulk tanks. During his later middle age, he worked for the Wood County Courthouse as building engineer until his retirement.

Lloyd had numerous hobbies, which he ambitiously developed. He built an apiary at his home in Wood County. He would transport his bees to City Point cranberry marshes in the spring, and he wintered his hives at the Riedel winter home in Florida.

Upon retirement, he built an ultra light airplane, built a runway on his property and flew the plane from age 65 to 67.

Riedel was also an avid motorcyclist, touring with his brothers, Don and Dale and sons, Larry and Tom, on many trips to Colorado. His last ride was when he turned 80.

He was a member of Faith Lutheran Church and the Marshfield Elks Club.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Oct. 18, 2010, at Faith Lutheran Church, Marshfield. The Rev. Tricia Turner will officiate. Visitation will be held from 9:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the church Monday.

The Hansen-Schilling Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.

Those wishing to offer an expression of sympathy in Lloyd's memory are encouraged to do so to the Marshfield Research Foundation or Faith Lutheran Church.
