Payne, Earl G. (24 DEC 1930 - 13 OCT 2010)

 

NEILLSVILLE--Earl G. Payne, 79, of Neillsville died Wednesday, Oct. 13, 2010, at the House of Dove in Marshfield after a short battle with cancer.

 

Earl Glen Payne was born Dec. 24, 1930, in Clark County to Wesley and Verna (Schaele) Payne. He grew up attending Neillsville-area schools and later served in the Armed Forces from 1948 to 1952, including service in the Korean War.

 

Earl was married to Joanne Brown on Oct. 17, 1952, and lived in Milwaukee during this marriage. He later was divorced. Earl relocated to the Neillsville area and was married to Erdine (Oldham) Struensee on June 14, 1985. Earl's free time was spent fishing and hunting. He also was a member of the American Legion Post 73 in Neillsville, were he worked many fish fries and spent as many hours playing cards.

 

Earl is survived by his wife, Erdine Payne; children, Elaine Fischer, Linda Long, Pamela (Darren) Dillon, Cindy Ramezyk, Wesley Payne, Kevin (Lori) Payne, and Kristine Payne; stepchildren, Donna (Darell) Degnitz, Mike (Sharon) Struensee, Nancy (Wayne) Vaughan, Julie (Wayne) Santroch, Mark (Nancy) Struensee, Tim Struensee; 19 grandchildren; 44 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; 26 step-grandchildren; 13 step-great-grandchildren; brother, Toby (Lyn) Payne; sister, Eunice Humke; nieces and nephews.

 

He is preceded in death by his parents; sister, Norma Nelson; and brother, Myron Payne.

 

A graveside service will be held in the Neillsville Cemetery on Monday Oct. 18, 2010, at 11 a.m. A celebration of life will follow at the American Legion Post 73 in Neillsville.
