Buchholz, Martha (Marriage - 13 June 1959)

The Rev. I. J. Tanner performed the wedding ceremony June 13 for Miss Martha Buchholz, Rt. 3 Neillsville, and Leland J. Appleyard.  The couple exchanged nuptial vows in a double ring ceremony in Calvary Lutheran Church, Neillsville.

The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Buchholz, and the groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Appleyard, all of Rt. 3, Neillsville.

The bride, given in marriage by her father, was attired in a floor length dress of nylon tulle, fashioned with a front and back panel of Chantilly lace, and a full hooped skirt. The fitted bodice, with long lace sleeves, was styled with a Sabrina neckline adorned with scattered sequins. She carried a cascade of pale pink roses, with burgundy colored streamers entwined with rosebuds.

A sister, Miss Caroline Buchholz, was her maid of honor.  Another sister, Mrs. Alice Smith, served as bridesmaid.  They were dressed in floor length dresses of pale blue and carried a cascade formation of pink carnations.

The groomsman was Dale Appleyard. William Appleyard, another brother, served as bestman.  Melvin Appleyard, brother of the groom, and Richard Buchholz, brother of the bride, acted as ushers.

Flower girls were nieces of the bride, Beth Mueller and Bridget Smith.  Jackie Swenson, nephew of the groom, carried the rings on a white satin pillow.

"Oh Perfect Love" and "The Lord’s Prayer" were sung by Dale Appleyard, accompanied by Mrs. I. J. Tanner at the organ.

Following the ceremony a reception fro 200 guests was held at the bride’s home.

The bride, a graduate of Neillsville High School, is employed in an abstract office in Eau Claire.  Her husband, also a graduate of the Neillsville School, attended one year at the University in Madison and spent four years in the navy.  He is a senior at Stout State College, where he is majoring in Industrial Arts.

On their return from a wedding trip they will reside at 1009 S. Farwell, Eau Claire.

People from away here for the wedding were: Mr. and Mrs. Werner Mattson and Mrs. George Jacobson, Milwaukee; Arthur Thoma, Berlin; Mrs. Marian Swenson and son Jackie, Durand, and Mr. and Mrs. Keith Lea, Escanaba, Mich.
