Eddy, Cheryl Ann (4 August 1947 - 26 September 2010)

 

Cheryl Eddy, 63, of Neillsville, died Sunday, Sept. 26, 2010, at her home following a courageous two and one-half years battle with cancer.

 

Cheryl Ann Opelt was born Aug. 4, 1947, in Neillsville, the daughter of Rudolph Carl and Marcella Jean (Lipkie) Opelt.  She graduated from Neillsville High School in 1965 and shortly after moved to Milwaukee.  She was united in marriage to Harold "Hap" Eddy June 4, 1966, at the United Church of Christ in Neillsville.  They then moved to Genoa, IL.  Later they moved back to Neillsville and Cheryl became a stay-at-home mom and started to work occasionally as a cook for Mark and Merrill Brunette at the Neillsville Country Club.  In 1988, she took a job at the Memorial Medical Center in Neillsville and worked in their purchasing department.  April 1, 2009, she was diagnosed with cancer and was forced to retire due to her health.

 

Cheryl was a very active member of the United Church of Christ in Neillsville as well as numerous community organizations and boards.

 

During her spare time, Cheryl enjoyed cooking, gardening and entertaining others.  Her favorite pastimes however were spending time with loved ones and spoiling her grandchildren.  Cheryl was a wonderful, caring person who will be sadly missed by her family and numerous friends.

 

She is survived by her husband, Harold "Hap"; four children, Melissa (Terry) Ruder of Plainfield, IL, James (Pamela) Eddy of La Crosse, Joseph (Melissa) Eddy of Marshfield and Jason Eddy of Sayre, OK; seven grandchildren, Megan Blazel, Collin Eddy, Adriana Eddy, Nicholas Ruder, Joshua Ruder, Grace Eddy and Samuel Eddy; six siblings, Richard Opelt of Neillsville, Bruce (Barb) Opelt of Neillsville, Randy (Michelle) Opelt of Eau Claire, David Opelt of Neillsville, Rosemary Opelt of Neillsville and Susan Hornback of Poynette.  Cheryl is also survived by several nieces and nephews and other relatives.

 

She was preceded in death by her parents, Marcella in 1998 and Rudy in 2005.

 

Funeral services for Cheryl will be held at 12 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 2, at the United Church of Christ in Neillsville. Pastor James Mohr will officiate.  Interment will be in the Columbia Cemetery in Hewett Township.  Visitation will be from 9 a.m.  to 11:45 a.m. Saturday at the United Church of Christ.

 

Honorary casket bearer is Greg Eddy.

 

Casketbearers are her nephews: Brian Opelt, Andrew Opelt, Randy Dyer, Dave Wagner Jr., David Eddy, Jr., Gary Eddy, Todd Eddy and Kevin Langreck.

 

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Cheryl’s family for designation at a later date.
