Schmidt, August Frederick (24 January 1888 - 17 April 1959)

 

August Schmidt, 71, Rt. 2 Neillsville, died Friday afternoon at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Marshfield, where he had been admitted the day before.

 

Funeral services were held Monday afternoon from the Zion American Lutheran church in the Town of Pine Valley, of which he was a member.  The Rev. Marvin Beninga of Granton officiated, and burial was made in the Neillsville Cemetery.

 

August Frederick Schmidt, son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Henry Schmidt, was born January 24, 1888, in Chilton.  When he was two years old his family moved to Marshfield.  He received his education in the Marshfield schools and worked in Milwaukee.

 

Twenty-three yeas ago the Schmidt family returned to Marshfield and in 1949 moved onto the present farm on Rt. 2, Neillsville.  On June 27, 1933, he was married to the former Ella Fiene in Illinois. 

 

He is  survived by his wife and the following children: Mrs. John (Mabel) Pipke, Mrs. Joe (Lucille) Miller, Mrs. Hino (Ella) Polinski and George Schmidt all of Milwaukee; Raymond Schmidt, Momence, Ill.; Mrs. Clarence (Audrey) Fox, Palatine, Ill.; Mrs. Gerald (Marie) Vanden Bloomen of Kaukauna; and Walter Schmidt, Neillsville.

 

Seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren also survive as do the following brothers and sisters: Mrs. Gilbert (Mary) Augustine, Milwaukee; Mrs. Joe (Anna) Buechel, Sheboygan; John Schmidt, Soldiers Home, Wood; and one step-brother, Ted Schmidt of Marshfield.

 

Funeral arrangements were made by the Bergemann Funeral Home.

 

Pallbearers were: Arthur Ackerman, Albert Dux, Arthur Dux, Thone Karnitz, Frank Knoop, and Herbert Henning.

 

The congregation sang, "Nearer My God to Thee," and Miss Caroline Marg sang the hymn, "Let Me Go" accompanied at the organ by Mrs. Kenneth Karnitz. 

 

Out of town people here for the services included: Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Schmidt, Miss Mary Schmidt, Mr. and Mrs. Ted Schmidt, and Miss Sandra Schmidt, Marshfield; Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Fox, Palatine, Ill.; Mr. and Mrs. Herman Schmidt, Momence, Ill.; Mr. and Mrs. Joe Miller, Mr. and Mrs. Heino Polinski, Mr. and Mrs. George Schmidt, Mr. and Mrs. George Fiene, Mrs. John Pipke, Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Fiene, Mrs. Edna Pernusch, Mrs. Mary Augustine, and John Schmidt, all of Milwaukee; Mrs. Gerald Vanden Bloomen, Kaukauna; Mr. and Mrs. Elders Flanders, Austin, Minn.; and Mr. and Mrs. Ben Clouse, Loyal.
